@708Idk67140 Despite knowing he would likely face torture again, he returned to protect his family. This happened around 2020. He had been missing ever since, until now, when his body was found.
They interviewed him after he was released from prison. At the time, he was in the Netherlands, where the interview took place. Later, Syrian officials contacted him, threatening to imprison and torture his family if he did not return. They assured him he would be safe if he came back voluntarily.
We found Travis Timmerman from Urbana Missouri - an American prisoner liberated from one of Assad’s most notorious prisons. He’s fine. A bit dazed. Didn’t realize the regime had fallen until this morning.
Syrian activist Mazen Hammadi gave this harrowing account of his torture by Assad’s security services.
His deceased body was found today at Sednaya.
May Allah (swt) accept Mazen and all those that were killed in Assad’s dungeons as martyrs, ameen.

Statement from the Syrian Civil Defense:
"Statement on the Conclusion of the Search for Any Remaining Potential Detainees in Secret Underground Cells at Sednaya Prison
The Syrian Civil Defense (The White Helmets) hereby announces the end of operations to search for any possible detainees in undiscovered secret cells or underground passages within the notorious Sednaya Prison. No unopened secret cells or passageways were found.
The prison had once held thousands of innocent people who were arrested by the defunct Assad regime. There was a belief that some might not have managed to leave, unlike the hundreds of detainees who were released over the past two days, due to being held in sealed, inaccessible areas, according to accounts from missing persons’ families and local residents.
The Syrian Civil Defense affirms that its specialized teams thoroughly searched every section and facility of the prison, including its basements, yards, and the surrounding areas. They were accompanied by individuals with comprehensive knowledge of the prison’s layout. No evidence was found to confirm the existence of any undiscovered secret underground cells or passageways.
Five specialized teams participated in the search operations, including two K9 units (trained police dogs), as well as support and medical teams. These teams examined all entrances, exits, ventilation openings, sewage and water pipes, electrical wiring, and surveillance camera cables. No hidden or secret underground areas were discovered.
We express deep disappointment over the thousands of detainees still missing, whose families remain unable to learn anything about their fate. At the same time, we stand in full solidarity with the victims’ relatives. We fully understand the anguish of waiting for their loved ones and children.
We urge social media users to be cautious in dealing with the widespread misinformation and rumours regarding prisons and detainees. Please verify information before sharing it online and on social media, to spare the victims’ families from unnecessary emotional harm.
We call on all parties, stakeholders, and the victims’ families not to dig into or tamper with prisons. Doing so can destroy physical evidence that may be crucial to uncovering the truth and supporting justice and accountability efforts. We assure you that our specialized teams are ready to deal with any prison where the presence of detainees in secret locations is suspected.
We also call on international institutions and local authorities to support the efforts of the Syrian civil society in determining the fate of missing persons from all sides. The Syrian Civil Defense will devote its resources to uncovering mass graves, identifying unknown remains, and returning them to their families, in hopes of helping heal wounds and advancing the causes of transitional justice and peace."
