Outside of that, BMO and others refer to him as both throughout the series (“he” is predominant), and “they” is used at points in the comics, so that’s just wrong. Genderfluid would likely be more accurate (still under the umbrella).

@SagedWebas @North_Forebilth @cincellaa Up until him directly mentioning “messing with their minds” he’s almost entirely frustrated with and focused on Caine’s entire lie of an adventure - he feels manipulated, hates that he let himself be more vulnerable than usual, and hates that he let himself believe it in the end.

Jax deflecting and throwing the focus onto Caine after pressing the button but feeling extremely frustrated by Caine of all people blatantly lying to him and getting him believe the adventure was real are not mutually exclusive.

@PussyDeluxeMeal I don't think what we learn later changes much of that - it was obviously bullying back then, and the specific moments designed to be funny are still funny - they're meant to be. You can feel bad for Gangle but also laugh at obvious jokes at her expense because again, fiction.

@PussyDeluxeMeal They're never subtle about Jax's bullying (particularly with Gangle), but some of those moments were still designed to be funny even knowing that (which is something that sounds wholly contradictory but in the context of fiction it's entirely normal for both to be true).

@PussyDeluxeMeal Her coping mechanism(s) are definitely hurting those around her (+ herself), but again, primarily mentally. Other characters within the story have also done the whole "cartoon violence beyond what they'd ever do in real life" thing and it wasn't frowned on for them either.
