Cops at UCSF are telling Student Researchers to get off their own campus. We have a right to talk to coworkers about voting to authorize a strike for union recognition! This is shameful @UofCalifornia... stop committing unfair labor practices!
It needs to be built so that shit situations like the one we have labored in for over a decade now, and the 32% tuition increase that students have swallowed in that same time frame, can never happen again. 4/4
Contract ain't bad! But if our union was really serious about participating in building a broader intersectoral coalition beyond ourselves, then we needed to go through with the strike. Management cannot retroactive bargain anyways, so we had nothing to lose. 1/4
Instead we will go on and "continue to perform our duties as usual" when the reality is that absurdity of working and learning within a colonial and neoliberal institution is anything but usual. And a real cross-sector strategy needs to be developed in order to stop it. 3/4
We only could gain experience of coming together across sectors and empowering ourselves and others to stand up against our bully bosses. And we could live that experience together. Instead we are back passively behind our screens consuming our union leadership's messaging. 2/4

We only could gain experience of coming together across sectors and empowering ourselves and others to stand up against our bully bosses - because we got each other's backs. 2/3
Places you might find UC Lecturers tomorrow: the park, the municipal pool, a burrito joint, Tinder, grandma's house.
Places you won't find UC Lecturers tomorrow: the classroom, the office
With Lecturers going on strike, it is a good moment to recall the trend of precarity across all sectors of the UC system: Lecturers, TAs, undergraduates, service workers. Here is useful document from amidst the wave of COLA strikes - WE ALL NEED A COLA!
