This is Emiliano Zapata. He was a leading figure during the Mexican Revolution (1910-1920), during which he formed and commanded the Liberation Army of the South, an important revolutionary brigade. One of his most famous quotes was, "I would rather die standing than live on my knees."
Zapata was born on August 8, 1879, in Anenecuilco, Mexico. He was assassinated on April 10, 1919, by agents of the Mexican President Venustiano Carranza, who strongly opposed Zapata's agendas.
