Greater Yellow-headed Vulture perched near the lodge. Their head is not completely yellow but a beautiful mix of yellow, pink, blue & orange. A species that specializes in undisturbed lowland #rainforest and can often be seen soaring above our property. #Amazon #Ecuador #birding

A recent @CBCNews article discussed the discovery that #woodpecker's brains have high levels of the same protein as human brains w/ injuries. Here's a photo I shot of a Red-necked Woodpecker at @eden_amazon. I wonder what woodpeckers can teach us about treating head injuries.

Hoatzin (Opisthocomus hoazin) have a ruminant-like digestive system, storing and fermenting leaf matter in an enlarged crop, giving the birds a unique odour. As such, the local Ki'chwa call them “Stinky Turkeys”. This is one of many on Yuturi Lake @eden_amazon #travel #Ecuador

@FedericoACR Hola Federico. There are members of the same genus (Cithaerias) in Costa Rica, however, there is no consensus on how many species belong to the group. So to answer your question, it depends on which scientist you ask! Thanks for the question!
