@MaestraOlivia A5: It would normalise all the different ways people can be. It would remove the taboo around it all. It would help kids find the vocabulary to talk about themselves and how they're feeling about all of it.

@angemolony Can you answer, "I identify as _____." and model it for them? When I teach gender identity, they learn the respectful way to talk about it is to ask, "How do you identify?" The question you're getting is their version of that!

@kruu_justin I teach Body Science and we formally teach diversity & inclusion starting in grade 4. The conversations are always fantastic! Each year the kids are more informed, less surprised, they all know LGBTQ people either in the media, family or friends.

@kruu_justin A2: We formally teach biological sex including intersex, gender identity, gender expression, attraction types. It gives everyone a common vocabulary and eliminates the taboo-ness of it all. #queer_educhat

@KanakoSuwa I'm so tempted to be completely out. I'm out with the older kids because I sponsor the Alliance club. It's just a matter of time before I'm out with my elem students. I also teach Body Science which includes gender identity, gender expression, attraction types. #queer_educhat

@kruu_justin A3: There are so many great picture books. Love is Love is fantastic and even talks about the term, "that's so gay." Being Jazz is great for gender identity.

@kruu_justin A1: Another answer - some parents feel if kids learn about diverse genders or attraction types it will encourage their children to not be cisgender and heterosexual.

@kimbrap @SASchina @lauravseeger Really? I didn't realise there was a limit. I'm one of those librarians that forgets to check out their books. 😳 My kids were able to go back to when they were in PK3! They loved seeing those early books about dinosaurs and princesses!
