Codependency and trauma bonding get used interchangeably but they're not the same. Codependency is a pattern of over-functioning for someone else's needs. Trauma bonding is a chemical attachment formed under cycles of harm and relief.
We really need to be more kind to people because alot of people are going through alot, looking at them from outside u might think all is well with them simply because they wear nice hair, clothes, drives good cars or even have good job. But trust me their is always that one thing or situation that makes them wet their pillows at night.
Lets be more nice and kind to people. ❤️
“T + A Forever”💔
We were 7 when we carved our names into the mango tree behind my compound in Ikorodu.
*T + A. Forever.*
You were my first everything.
First person I shared my meat pie with at break.
First person I danced with at Children’s Day.
First person who promised "When we grow up, we’ll marry and build house here."
Life happened. JSS. SSS. University.
You went to study Engineering in Ogbomoso. I stayed in Lagos for Nursing.
We texted every night. "Good morning my future wife" "Good night my doctor"
Then NYSC came.
You got posted to Kano. I got Lagos.
The calls became "I’m busy with camp"
The "I love you" became "seen"
The mango tree became just a tree.
Last December I came home for Christmas.
The tree was still there. Bigger now.
And under it, you were taking pictures. With a ring on her finger.
She was beautiful. She was laughing at something you said.
You looked up and saw me.
For 2 seconds we were 7 again.
Then you said, "Ayo, this is my fiancée, Zainab."
I smiled. I hugged her. I said congratulations.
I walked home and didn’t cry until I got to my room.
The heartbreak wasn’t that you left.
It was that the boy who promised me forever under that tree
grew up... and forgot to tell me he took the promise with him.
Now when I pass that mango tree, I don’t see "T + A. Forever."
I just see old carvings on bark.
And I remind myself: some people are for your childhood. Not for your future.
