From “one criminal in fifty Albanians,” your claim has now spiraled into: “Maybe it’s one in three, maybe one in four, I don’t know…”

Really?! You don’t know?

And this comes after you say you double-checked the numbers?

I already pointed you to The Telegraph’s own data (generously, I might add) choosing your reference, albeit a self-contradictory one. But you seem determined to persevere in error.

So let me help you with further clarity.

According to data from the Albanian Embassy in the UK, an institution that deals with real people, not Brexit soundbites, the number of Albanians in your country is not 53,000, as The Telegraph initially suggests. In fact, in that very same article, it concedes, and I quote, “the analysis has likely underestimated the size of the Albanian population.” It then speculates the figure could be as high as 140,000.

In reality, Mr.@Nigel_Farage guess what? The figure is well over 300,000, man! These are people teaching your children, building your homes, caring for your elderly and your sick. They are not meat for the post-Brexit brainwashing propaganda teeth. They are part of the living, breathing fabric of your society.

Even without controlling for age, gender, or socioeconomic status, your ratios fall apart. Not one in fifty. And certainly not one in three or four. These are not statistics, they are scare tactics dressed up as data.

So let me ask you plainly: why is it so difficult to admit you got it wrong, without dragging through the mud an entire community of great, hardworking people who serve your own motherland with dignity as if it were their own?

Britain is already great and not least because of its diversity, its resilience, and its multicultural strength. A nation in post-traumatic political stress does not need scapegoats. It doesn’t need cheap shots. And it certainly doesn’t need myths in place of facts.

I genuinely hope your upcoming visit to Albania inspires you to fight for ideas, rather than against people — in the spirit of the great liberal tradition your country has long stood for.

I look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful country as my guest of honor. But before you arrive to enjoy real sunshine and genuine hospitality, can we please agree to discuss facts not your post-truth fantasies?
