Originally known as the “Princeton of the West,” Westminster University was established and construction began in 1892 in Westminster, Colorado, as a Presbyterian institution intended to mirror the prestige of eastern Ivy League schools. Located on Crown Point, a hilltop overlooking Denver, classes actually started in 1908, but the university closed in 1917 due to financial issues and the challenges of World War I. The site still operates today as a Christian school, preserving the site’s historical and architectural legacy in Westminster. #Colorado #history
In 1882, the Denver, South Park, & Pacific Railroad laid tracks connecting Dillon and Keystone, establishing Old Keystone Village near today’s Keystone Resort. The railroad supported the region’s mining, sawmill and timber industries, helping transport goods across the valley. By the 1930s, demand for timber declined, leading to the closure of sawmills and the rail spur. In 1976, Keystone Science School was founded and continues to operate here. #history #colorado
