@CoachBeaumont My main thing is why are so many people in the national media and on twitter talking about a Maine senate race. Like I get it about the general horse race of"taking back the senate" but almost nobody talking about this will/can actually vote in Maine lol
@PhilSustainable the areas of town where "suburban car owners" would park are mostly paid spots (midtown, chelsea, etc). Here in uptown manhattan it is almost all residential urban car owners. I know this because we all see each other move for street sweeping 3-4 times a week.
@PhilSustainable as long as the permit is reasonable or cheaper for city resisdents I am fine with it, but there are a lot of grand statements like this that feel pretty divorced from the reality on the ground.
lol how many other NYC parents were right in the middle of bedtime when that emergency alert went off?! @NYCMayor, pro tip, next time give a dad a warning, bro
@Krispy_nachos@NYGF1fan@___frye it's for waterway purposes so the long island sound can be managed by the state of NY. It is legally a peninsula but geographically an island.
@Asier_Jauregui@caitoz Sorry I think you misunderstand, obviously sanctions have been economically impactful, that’s the point. I meant Iran had responsibility to not massacre its protesting citizens. strawmanning? I’m not tearing down an easier version of your argument, I’m disagreeing with you.
@Asier_Jauregui@caitoz Dude, I am a dad with a regular 9-5 and my hobby is to think about history and politics. I appreciate your time, but it just isn't. What it is is a disagreement on premise. Be well, mean it sincerely
@Asier_Jauregui@caitoz Man, I'm trying to be nice, but I don't think you actually used that right. When you to impress upon me, a simple rube, that the CIA/Mossad are so effective in their influence in Iran, & I point out to you how that belief benefits them, that is definitionally not a non sequitur.
@Asier_Jauregui@caitoz And I don't mean to place all of her views on to you as well, I just don't know why people still listen to her after she was wrong about everything leading up to/after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
@arash_tehran@HBendaas I meant to put "everyone" in quotes, a plurality at least. It's a convenient way to retcon your support when the emotions wear off. "We were tricked!" is a much more sympathetic excuse than "we did it because we could!"
@arash_tehran@HBendaas Manufactured consent is an attempt at absolution for doing what everyone wanted done in at the time. In reality after 9/11 much of the country wanted someone over in the Arab world to "pay". Lying about Latvia having WMDs in 2002 just would not have moved the needle to war.
@Asier_Jauregui@caitoz not being smart, just asking Qs when you and the OP are denying the agency of the actual protestors by insinuating that the whole thing is just a foreign intelligence op and not an organic uprising that maybe/likely is being fanned by foreign intelligence to unknown actual effect
@Asier_Jauregui@caitoz Not trying to be glib, the truth is we really don't know how much effect intelligence agencies affect foreign affairs at all and it's in the intelligence agencies best interest to believe that they are vital and very effective.
I feel like I dip in and out of here so infrequently and talk about such a wide range of topics in my responses people are going to think I am some form of bot or asset, and that's maybe the biggest problem with modern social media and our trust in fellow humans.
@Asier_Jauregui@caitoz Also, I live in the US, do y'all think the protestors in 2020 or the current ones protesting ICE are being fomented by paid agents of the FSB/some other foreign intelligence or is it more likely that many people don't like authoritarian police violence?
@Asier_Jauregui@caitoz A convenient list. Some examples that the US had direct large scale involvement in the regime change, some direct CIA/Military coups, and some where the involvement was so indirect that it was marginal at best. Some conspicuous absences that don't support the theory too. Ukraine?
