I wish Black folks would stop playing into respectability politics, I mean we all know shorty was innocent but even if he stole water his penalty shouldn't be fucking death.
I’m heartbroken to hear that we lost Peabo Bryson today. His incredible voice and his kind spirit embodied the beauty of song and performance. He was so wonderful and generous to me all those years ago, when we recorded Beauty and the Beast. He made me so comfortable, as I was just learning to sing in English. He will remain for me always as a real symbol of the joy that music has brought to my life. His voice and his talent will be missed…
My heart is with your family, and may you rest in peace, Peabo.
Love,
Celine xx…
Losing Peabo Bryson at the start of Black Music Month does not sit right with me. We didn’t just lose a hitmaker, we lost one of R&B’s finest vocalists, a singer whose rich baritone, effortless control, and emotional phrasing made every song feel timeless. 🕊️
I had the privilege of working with Peabo Bryson on the @somma.cruise last year. One evening, I noticed him sitting alone on the deck, so I joined him. We ended up talking for hours.
He shared incredible stories, spoke passionately about his music, and had such a deep love for his craft. I am so grateful to have had that special moment with him.
To his beautiful wife, son, and entire family, please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Peabo’s legacy will live on forever through his timeless music and the countless lives he touched. My deepest condolences to everyone who loved him.
Rest easy, Peabo Bryson 🕊💙
He & Regina Belle were SANGIN' on this song...
"A Whole New World" hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 & won them a Grammy....
At the time of recording "Beauty & the Beast" (1991), Celine Dion was actually considered an "up & coming" singer. Disney was concerned she may not have been a "strong enough" pull to do the song alone. They asked the seasoned and well-known R&B star, Peabo Bryson to sing the duet along with Celine. It became a massive hit and it would also win them a Grammy for the song.
Peabo Bryson & Celine Dion truly gave us one of the most magical Disney theme songs of all time with "Beauty & the Beast". Peabo's signature sound and soothing tones will definitely be missed, but never forgotten.
