Val often refers to a saying that brings clear context to our unremitting work promoting affordable housing: "We plant trees that we will never sit under. We are building for generations to come."

What a special occasion to honor a remarkable community housing advocate in Doug Plambeck and celebrate this groundbreaking of Plambeck Gardens. We are honored to have helped at the earliest stage to secure the land as a financial partner to CPAH.

We were happy to see Third Eye Books and the new Freadom Festival in Portland for #Juneteenth! In the past, they've shipped requests for our board's equity book club (perfect customer service). As Farah Jasmine Griffin says, "Read Until You Understand."
Washington Post today: "Rents are Rising Everywhere." WashCo is highest in Metro area up 16.6% and as Terwilliger Ctr for Housing Policy notes, "The lowest-income families are hardest hit by rising rents and lack of supply." Increase nationally was 11.3%.
The Gap, an annual report from @NLIHC, helps us visualize housing affordability. It's Code Red in Oregon--with only 26 affordable and available rental homes per 100 Extremely Low Income renters who need them. And sadly, too many of those closed out of the market are now homeless.
"Homelessness needs to be understood as a problem driven by a lack of access to housing. It is a market failure. People are forced out of stable housing or are unable to access it when housing markets don’t provide sufficient and affordable options."

With a collaborative of CDFIs, including @noah_org and @CommHousingFund, Craft3 deploys capital into #affordablehousing, #smallbiz & community facilities in the SW Corridor and other rapidly gentrifying neighborhoods in #PDX. In 2021, we made 16 loans as part of this initiative.
The root cause of homelessness is a lack of available and affordable housing. Oregon has one of the greatest deficits in the nation. The problem is not so puzzling, and the solution is very clear. #BuildBuildBuild
Also increase access to services for mental health & addition.
We're glad to see we join a majority who believe sidewalks are essential for safe and healthy neighborhoods in @WashcoOregon! @OregonWalks They're part of a well-built home.
@oregonhousing--Happy 2022--exciting to catch up on all the hard work and systems-building around supportive housing, and to know we are making progress on new affordable home construction!
