I finally got round to writing another blogpost about ways you can take a legal case in England and some resources and sources of support https://t.co/tG1SecWRff #DeafMust
@Saltbar @HSBCUKBusiness Grrrr. I wrote a blogpost about a friend who complained about the text-relay version of a call refusal with advice on how to make an initial complaint for those who aren't sure https://t.co/ZzGUYY4NJA
Pls do share/RT. #DeafMust
It took a yearfor this employer to get round to sorting a phoneline for me. Meanwhile the awful manager kept asking me to phone people, then laughing when I told her I couldn't because employer hadn't given me a phoneline yet. She wouldn't help speed it up either. #DeafMust
In a former job I needed Telecoms to install an analogue phoneline so I could use a textphone and textrelay. I sent technical information to them which my manager didn't understand, so she formally reprimanded me for being rude. #DeafMust
I've written something about the practical purposes of the #DeafMust campaign.

Solidarity, bearing witness identifying problems and solutions and hopefully coming up with strategic ideas for creating the change we want to see.
About to make my 8th complaint to BT about NGT...
4 ops over 30 min call (3 changes), only telling me about 1 change. 2nd change confused the CRAP out of hearie on other end but she was told about next 2 changes that I wasn't told about! #HearingPrivilege#DeafMust
@p4tterson@rwilks Not surprised! Disabled friend taking dis discrim case in court had judge asking nosy Qs about their impairment for 30+min. Pissed off the respondent's legal bods too cos they'd been told to "keep it brief".
Some judges need to seriously read the Equal Treatment Bench Book!
@RachieWilks This is maddening as the @ICOnews and @EHRC have repeatedly issued guidance saying organisations MUST accept relay or interpreter assisted calls.

Today's obscure #DeafMust#CaseLaw is a group action taken by deaf people in the year 2000 against Butlins who ejected a whole group because a few behaved badly https://t.co/tZ7bYkP68V
Stanford told the jailer and his lawyers repeatedly that he couldn't hear the witnesses. His lawyers decided not to tell the judge - they could hear ok.
Article 6 case failed due to "officers of the court" not being told. How could Stanford have known that!? #DeafMust#CaseLaw
Today's obscure #DeafMust#CaseLaw is 'Stanford v United Kingdom' a European Court of Human Rights case focusing on Article 6. https://t.co/pBa5NxAjnO
While Stanford's crimes were v. unpleasant, this is a classic example of Hearies deciding it doesn't matter if we can't hear.
There does not seem to be a commitment to promote deaf and fluent signers into working with deaf children. There is a considerable hearing-bias even at the expense of sign language skills. https://t.co/WpKPmAXfHY
Eventually I heard back with a message saying the court manager had booked STTR. The court date isn't for several months yet so I will update afterwards.
I am also having to plan for "what if" the STTR doesn't arrive. I will email court 10 days before to check. #DeafMust 3/end.
I thought my request had been clear, offered proof of needing STTR and cited the ETBB. Legal friends said it was not me, it was the judge, they can be stubborn AND ignorant. I was advised to politely re-explain my needs again and stress I needed STTR not loops. #DeafMust 2/x
I've had issues with courts and communication support before. Once I requested STTR for a day long session and was told "The judge says he's never heard of STTR, he thinks you will be fine using the loop and he will generously agree extra breaks. 1/x https://t.co/tLRkmhFWtS
What are Deaf people supposed to do if in a legal situation and the "professionals" (lawyers, judges etc) don't know how to behave appropriately with a BSL/English interpreter? Other lawyers can't intervene cos protocol. We need basic using terp guide w/pictures #DeafMust https://t.co/BLkz5B3hna
In which a disability film event forgets #Subtitles and #AudioDescription for deaf and visually impaired people and then tries to make out I'm the unreasonable one for politely complaining. #DeafMust

More info on wayback archive by the law firm who represented Mr Waring at https://t.co/OIWyY2XfD2
Basically by not negotiating before court and denying everything, the taxi firm annoyed the judge. This is quite a high pay out for a disability discrimination case. #DeafMust
@kingqueen3065@FryLegal Wayback machine is my friend!

^^ is article I was thinking of. I wonder what the full judgment says. That does not sound like a happy judge.
@kingqueen3065@FryLegal There was a more detailed article about the case by Simpson Millar the firm who took the case, but it's not online anymore. I recall the respondents refused to mediate or engage with claimant hence the high compensation amount. Mr Waring provided training 2 or 3 x as well.
