The Tamil Nadu's Industries Minister named five sunrise sectors: semiconductors, shipbuilding, AI, space and GCCs.
From today, two topics will be covered daily. It will look into what's going well, what needs attention and three asks for the government. I am including a couple of infrastructure related videos that are deemed essential for the vision.
The schedule:
Day 1: Shipbuilding
Day 1: Semiconductors
Day 2: AI
Day 2: GCCs
Day 3: Space and defence
Day 3: Infrastructure, moving people and goods
Day 4: Infrastructure, power and water
Each day's post will be linked below this one, so the series reads in order. #InvestInTN
A strong Tamil Nadu is built on strong partnerships.
At PAFI, I shared our vision for making Tamil Nadu a more competitive, investment-ready and innovation-driven destination, while creating greater opportunities for our people.
Under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Thiru C. Joseph Vijay, we are focused on building an ecosystem where businesses can grow, talent can thrive and every investment can translate into meaningful jobs and opportunities for people of Tamil Nadu.

Thanks for this. Indians have to be more vocal for what they need. We have reached the stage where we have a strong middle class that has expectations of what a good life accounts for. The more we can ask for better quality of life, the more we get. The political class will give us what we ask for.
It really helps when foreigners give the government constructive criticism. Please continue voicing out as it acts as a catalyst. Thank you!
Every factory, data centre and shipyard in this series needs the same thing first: a fast way to move people and goods.
Chennai airport's traffic is set to nearly double by 2033.
Ideas for Tamil Nadu, 6/7
What's going well?
Terminal T3 is due in March 2027, Coimbatore has land for a longer runway, and the Chennai–Bengaluru Expressway's other Tamil Nadu packages are about 90% done.
What needs attention?
Two second-airport sites are shortlisted, with no final pick or date, and Hosur's airport plan was declined again.
One expressway stretch has stalled since May 2025 (fresh bids are out), and the Thoothukudi railway is about one-eighth built.
By our estimate, Chennai airport fills up around 2030, even with T3 (CAPA says 2032).
Three asks (proposals):
1. Pick the second airport site this term, with a date
2. Award the stalled road and finish the railway
3. Ring roads first, for every growing city

India's second rocket launch site is being built on Tamil Nadu's southern coast, at Kulasekarapattinam.
Picture a career in space, a short drive from home. Will the parts be made here too?
Ideas for Tamil Nadu, 5/7
What's going well?
Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli are now space technology districts, and 4 of India's 7 new defence test centres are in Tamil Nadu, including India's first drone test centre.
What needs attention?
Of ₹32,699 cr pledged to Tamil Nadu's defence corridor, about ₹6,446 cr is invested, roughly one-fifth. That is slow nationally too: Uttar Pradesh's corridor is at about one-tenth.
Three asks (proposals)
1. Say which aerospace policy applies (the 2022 one ran to March 2026), and cover parts, repair and drones
2. Open the test centres to state and private universities
3. A quarterly corridor tracker: promised vs spentAlso worth a look: suppliers ready before the first launch, and support for small firms to get aerospace certification.

@svembu This is a good point but how do you think a regular person can make India great? It's important to understand this because not every one can start companies and build products.

This is a good thing. TN's strength is in industry. Getting these investments builds a stronger connection and supply chains will become tighter.
Now GCC and product heavy jobs is an area that will automatically improve once we have enough grade A office spaces in pipeline. Chennai has low rents compared to the rest of the big cities. The metro connectivity is already a big plus. Our TOD based high rises plan is already good but it's not approved yet for builders to start building.
Give options for people to unwind. And I'm not talking about drinking alone here. We have very few places for people to unwind when we have a few rivers and a very long coastline.
Funnily it's about doing the simple things right that will automatically get companies to move here.
This is a good move. Extending trade licence validity and simplifying clearances reduces unnecessary paperwork for businesses.
As per the Economic Survey, Tamil Nadu has implemented 19 out of the Centre’s 23 priority deregulation reform areas (the remaining ones were marked not applicable to the state). These cover land, building rules, labour, utilities and permissions. States like Uttar Pradesh have completed all 23.
Pending areas other states have moved faster on:
- Allowing women to work night shifts in factories and shops (with consent and safety measures) — done in UP and Andhra Pradesh.
- Fully removing the need for land-use conversion in more cases — done in Andhra Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
- Wider use of third-party inspectors for building plans instead of only government officials.
Benefits:
- Businesses spend less time and money on renewals and approvals, leaving more money for hiring and expansion.
- Faster clearances mean shops, factories and small units can start or grow sooner, creating more jobs.
- Predictable rules attract more investment, leading to better wages and more opportunities.
- Less frequent renewals and fewer licences make it easier for small traders and MSMEs.
Completing the remaining areas can make Tamil Nadu even stronger as an investment destination.

@ikamalhaasan Your movies used to have nationalistic messages. It's really happy to see the vintage KH narrative. Please continue your commentary on topics of national importance. This is the correct response to such a situation.
@elonmusk Thanks for this @elonmusk . Foreign interference is what moves India to invest in building our own version of technologies. Please continue this and start this campaign in other areas as well.
