A lot these ICU nurses didn’t work in MASH style covid units and develop twisted senses of humor and PTSD and it shows.
(They all graduated post covid and that doesn’t feel physically possible)
This is my favorite @DGlaucomflecken ever. Strikes close to home.
“Down here, at night, in a place that shortens are lifespan considerably, we’re free to practice medicine the way it’s supposed to be practiced - with rampant point of care ultrasound.”

patient: “why are you guys looking at me like I got shot in the face or something?”
me: “….. well what’s a good way to say you got shot in the face without you panicking?”
nursing student: “I cant wait to graduate, I wanna specialize in ****”
new grad: “I’m so happy I’m in **** specialty! Can’t wait to progress my education/role!”
experienced nurses: “I cant wait to fucking keel over and die”
#DamarHamlim is a great example on how CPR works great for acute cardiac events. CPR saves lives, but it isn't going to work the same way on a 80 year old in *multi system organ failure*
CPR and AED training saves lives.
I know he was at a game with trained professionals there to respond, but people fall out at the grocery store, at work, at the gym, etc. The sooner CPR is started, the better. Anyone can learn how.

I personally wasn't watching NFL last night, but don't want to see the clip. I've done enough CPR over the years that I'm pretty sure I know what it looked like and know everyone watching was 100% horrified like they are when loved ones code in the hospital.
I cannot stress to you how demoralizing it is to have worked in medicine for the last 18 months and to see patients every day, and to be told that you’re lying about what you are seeing, and that even if you aren’t, you’re treating it wrong. I feel deep pain and sadness over this.
@shawnaus17@keepitrealrn I feel ya- I said that as someone who started at that hourly rate less than a decade ago as an RN-BSN with Meditech in a level 1 trauma hospital in a major western city
Things I’ve learned working in the ER:
Don’t drink & drive
Don’t smoke
Don’t get up to go to the bathroom at night after age 70
Don’t climb ladders
Wear your seatbelt
If you’re on blood thinners wear a helmet at all times.
Especially if you wake up & have to use the bathroom
