That just describes the 3% who make it. What really makes most of us vomit and leave the Army are the incompetent bottom 50% of Colonels whose only skill is political manipulation. They hang on until forced to retire, convinced that their the next general.
I enjoyed watching them fail, but they do a ton of damage to the Army along the way.
@cpscott16 They still sell them but there sold out every year by May, there's probably not a single one available anywhere in the country right now. They have them on Amazon with a 2-5 month wait for shipping.
The demand is there but they still don't make enough of them to meet it. π€·ββοΈ
@RealUCBfosho Him and the 10th MTN CG got rolled because they reported their divisions as not ready for combat because half of their division were already deployed (following the USR rules at the time). The Army considered it an embarrassment in front of congress and punished both of them.
@James_Bird01@DocStrangelove2 That's why they did it, the local leaders were complaining about looters and the local US commanders jumped into the hearts and minds game with the only tool they had, M1 tanks.
The army once gave me a mattock handle, stuck me in the middle of the woods and told me my job was to guard fuel and generators from being stolen by the local Louisiana rednecks. I told my NCO I'll stand there all night but if a truck load of rednecks show up I'm helping them load the truck.
aka The Army does a lot of really stupid shit.
@cdrsalamander@StevePratico They are a terror narco state without an elected Govt. While we do have to face the reality of dealing with them pretending they aren't one step above Afganistan is foolish.
@ArmyMudPuppy I once watched a SGT next to me in the PX restroom put his headgear on to pee, because he couldn't figure out anything else to do with it. I might have over reacted but the surprising stupidity of it caught me off guard. π€£
@ross2stan198855@infantrydort I mostly did high level finance for the Army, I would always tell my guys "it's our job to get in front of illegal orders, but we have to be very careful getting in front of orders that are legal but stupid, advise and then move on."
@ClippedCoin@TimOnPoint 100%, I don't get these guys who supposedly lived through GWOT who think we should run to get into bed with another terror/narco state.
The people may be nice but the Govt has more inline with the Taliban than the US, they will not be any more grateful then Afghanistan was.
@CyborgPeds I have little roll around AC, that little R2 unit is happily saving me from the heat. It blows cold air and then pumps all the hot air outside for the climate change people to enjoy. They have been around Europe for years and they're worth it.
The Irish are the worst slow drivers on the planet, they drive like it's 1912 and are more worried about being discourteous then actually getting anywhere. I'd rather have a crazed Italian who's at least trying to get somewhere vs an Irishman who's meandering down the road below the speed limit.
If you want to be really angry... I found out in many assignments GO's don't even have to bring their own furniture, they have furniture packages they can choose from if they don't like the current style in the GO house. They just bring the stuff the want, leave everything else at their regular home or in storage and everything else is provided.
@cdrsalamander If you've never done it I would seriously recommend watching the series a second time. You end up hating and cheering for completely different characters.
It's well worth it.
Retired Army LTC, this is such a weird conversation because literally every single retired officer was fired. Either we didn't get promoted, didn't get the job we wanted, couldn't stand the politics needed to be successful or worst case was threatened to be fired as a spouse if we didn't get out, lol.
Neither of those fit because there's zero requirement for anyone to do anything for the common good. The system doesn't need the people to do anything but if the people want better stuff then they have to work. They have endless energy and replicators can make anything so money is pretty pointless as the only scarcity is social standing in the political or military's hierarchy, so that's what people are paid in.
It's probably more inline with a "benevolent" military dictatorship where merit matters because people die constantly.
Yeah the USS Comfort treated about a 1000 people and the military evacuated mostly US Citizens. Good job that's almost the same thing as rebuilding the whole island...
What could go wrong in sending a couple of hundred unsupported troops to a city with three million people starved by 20 years of crime lords. You should totally be in charge your understanding of theater level logistics is amazing...
