Holyrood plans to toughen up its university oversight powers after Dundee posted a £30m deficit.
Meanwhile here, UU ran up a £160m debt on its unnecessary new campus but opposes independent scrutiny.
Why is NI the only part of these islands without proper university oversight?
Stormont and UU haven’t the capacity to deliver cross-border university expansion on their own.
They need the political backing, financial backing and crucially, oversight, of the Irish and British governments.
We urgently need a new North-South body for Education on the island.
No mention of the Magee Expansion Plan by SoS @hilarybennmp in his answer yesterday.
If @NIOgov is already indicating the plan is dead, the British and Irish need to sit down to appoint commissioners immediately to deliver the independent NWU, as per the @RIAdawson blueprint.
Féile Derry is excited to announce the premiere of its latest film, A North West Carnival Story – Engage, Inspire and Celebrate, which highlights the work of Creggan-based arts organisation, North West Carnival Initiative. https://t.co/c0cpmYHB8d
What a pleasure to meet with local author James Simpson and learn more about his debut novel True Colours ❤️
The story is set in our city and I can’t wait to read it and get his perspective on life in Derry!
The book is available now to buy here in the Guildhall
Our full response to the Magee Expansion report (as informed by the @RIAdawson reports of 2021 & 2024) has been sent to the members of @NIAEconomy and is available here:

“I think there are two ways in which people are controlled. First of all frighten people and secondly, demoralise them…An educated, healthy and confident nation is harder to govern.”
~ Tony Benn
A reminder of an era where some of our politicians were genuine public servants.
Joe McLaughlin (Pennywise) was a cornerstone of the Rath Mor Centre - its first tenant and a loyal supporter of community enterprise for more than 30 years. He was a lovely man and will be badly missed. Ar dheis Dé go raibh sé.

Regional inequality is alive and well. Derry people's concerns were routinely dismissed. From the asset stripping of Magee to the abysmal infrastructure and lack of employment. Our children are leaving, never to return
