This is absolutely true.

A lot of EMS workers lost their lives during 9/11, and they deserve to be recognized as well.

As someone who witnessed these horrific attacks firsthand, I saw the bravery of so many first responders who ran toward the unknown while everyone else was running away. They risked—and, in many cases, lost—their lives trying to save others.

What many people don’t talk about are the first responders who continued to die in the years following the attacks from illnesses, including cancer.

First responders and people who lived and worked in the area were told that the air quality was safe. We now know that was far from the truth.

These men and women should never be forgotten. Their sacrifice continued long after September 11, 2001.
