2Pac was absolutely ruthless on “Don’t Go 2 Sleep” 🔥 Originally recorded in 1996 with the Outlawz and produced by Daz Dillinger during Pac’s Death Row days, this is one of his most vicious Bad Boy-era diss tracks. The aggression, delivery and sheer contempt in that outro are truly something else 🎤😤💯
Daz later reworked his own production, adding verses from himself and Kurupt for the Makaveli & Dillinger EP, released in 2001.
2Pac & The Outlawz - “Made N***az” (1996) 🔥🎤
One of Pac’s hardest Death Row-era joints. Produced by Pac himself alongside Johnny J, this is Pac and the Outlawz going absolutely IN 🔥
Originally released on the Supercop soundtrack in July 1996, just weeks before Pac’s death, the track later appeared on the Gang Related soundtrack in October 1997.
And that music video! 🎬 One of Pac’s final videos, directed by Gobi Rahimi. There were multiple versions, including that iconic rotating-camera performance and the hilarious but menacing scenes featuring Biggie and Puffy lookalikes! 😂🔥
30 years later, this joint still goes HARD. And let’s not overlook Pac’s involvement behind the boards either 💯
What a joint! One of those Death Row classics that deserves way more recognition. Released on the Murder Was the Case soundtrack in October 1994, “U Better Recognize” was Sam Sneed’s only single during his time at the label, with Dre on the hook and Sneed delivering over his own production🔥💯
Sneed was a force behind the boards, co-producing classics including “Natural Born Killaz” and “Keep Their Heads Ringin’”.
And this black-and-white video is an early Hype Williams gem 💎
Taken from AZ’s second album, Pieces of a Man, released in April 1998, this reunited AZ and Nas over production from legendary producer L.E.S. 🔥
L.E.S. also produced “Life’s a Bitch” on Nas’s Illmatic in 1994, the track that introduced so many of us to AZ and one of the GREATEST verses of all time 💯
Four years later, the same three talents came together again, this time with L.E.S. flipping Glenn Jones’s “Show Me” into a smooth and soulful backdrop.
An extremely rare case where I actually prefer the posthumous version to the original. The OG “I Wonda If Heaven’s Got a Ghetto” was released as the B-side to “Keep Ya Head Up” in ’93 and has that distinctive vocal sample lifted from En Vogue’s “My Lovin’ (You’re Never Gonna Get It)”.
The ’97 R U Still Down? Hip-Hop Version gives the same Pac vocal a completely different, cleaner and harder backdrop - and for once, I think the posthumous reworking actually improves the record. 🎤🔥
One of the standouts from Ghostface’s 1996 debut Ironman. RZA flips Bob James’ legendary “Nautilus” break into something absolutely frantic, while Ghost, Rae and Cappadonna go nuts over it. And the video, built around footage from the Japanese anime Speed Racer, was the perfect match for the track’s energy. Peak mid-’90s Wu. 🎤🔥🐝👐
Originally released on the Sunset Park soundtrack months before appearing on Ghostface’s debut Ironman, with RZA flipping two O.V. Wright samples into something dark, cinematic and unmistakably Wu. Ghost and Rae right in the middle of that ridiculous mid-’90s Wu run. 🎤🐝👐
Keith Murray is one of those MCs who rarely gets mentioned enough when people talk about the great lyricists of the ’90s. Distinctive voice, ridiculous vocabulary, abstract wordplay, charisma and a completely unorthodox flow - nobody really sounded like him. Seriously underrated MC. 🎤🔥
One for the Pac heads 👀🔥 The rarely seen beach version of 2Pac’s “Toss It Up” has circulated among fans for years, but was never the main officially released video. Completely different vibe from the darker garage version most people know - and Aaron Hall actually appears in this one too. 🎬🌊🔥
Listen to Pac’s second verse on “Me Against the World” and revise this nonsense opinion that he couldn’t get technical. The internal rhymes, extended rhyme schemes, cadence and control are ridiculous - and he’s doing it without sacrificing the message. Pac could absolutely rap his ass off when he wanted to. 💯
With all this extra stressin'
The question I wonder is after death, after my last breath
When will I finally get to rest through this oppression?
They punish the people that's askin' questions
And those that possess steal from the ones without possessions
The message I stress: to make it stop, study your lessons
Don't settle for less, even a genius asks his questions
Be grateful for blessings
Don't ever change, keep your essence
The power is in the people and politics we address
Always do your best, don't let the pressure make you panic
And when you get stranded
And things don't go the way you planned it
Dreamin' of riches, in a position of makin' a difference
Politicians are hypocrites, they don't wanna listen
If I'm insane, it's the fame made a brother change
It wasn't nothin' like the game; it's just me against the world

2Pac performing “All Eyez on Me” at adult-film star Champagne Pendavis’ birthday party in March 1996 🔥
Also interesting to spot Pac’s then-bodyguard Kevin Hackie alongside him - Hackie later appeared in Nick Broomfield’s Biggie & Tupac documentary and claimed that Suge Knight had arranged Pac’s murder.
The solo 2Pac version of “Bury Me a G” dates back to mid-1993, during the period Pac was developing material for both his next solo album and the emerging Thug Life project. His planned third solo album would later be advertised as Out on Bail, while the Thug Life version of “Bury Me a G” was ultimately released on Thug Life: Volume 1 in 1994. 🔥
Good ear - there’s a reason for that! 👀 The original version of “Toss It Up” was even closer to “No Diggity”, but Blackstreet issued Death Row with a cease-and-desist, forcing them to rework the production. Even the released version clearly retains some of that original flavour though 🔥
