@code_star How much of this is the DC/power shortage? If someone doesn’t have enough power/space to plug in all their B300s I would guess they’d be actively unracking H100s and demand higher prices to keep any plugged in.
@harryh@OsseChi@rocDSA@MetroJustice Completely unrelated, but do you own an RS building? A couple of your posts made it seem like you might. I bought one recently and am trying to connect with all of the techies that do.
@harryh@OsseChi@rocDSA@MetroJustice I’m guessing this would be via eminent domain, and compensation for that is usually closer to book value than enterprise value since it’s the physical assets you are taking.
@BigMeanInternet This seems to be a growing trend in NYC. I did the same thing earlier this year and know at least a couple others who have as well. It can be overwhelming at first, but been trying to get a community going to make it easier. @shayla__love would to chat about your experience
@_cturner@real_tveh And buying good quality requires understanding the product. I’m not against people buying farmed wood, I just want them to appreciate why and how it is different.
@_cturner@real_tveh My point isn’t about wood but about quality generally. Most of what I own is second hand, but high quality. When you build something that lasts it can benefit many owners. I think that is an easier way to abundance for all than building disposable and having to constantly rebuy.
@real_tveh@_cturner You should read the book "The Hidden Life of Trees". It's just great generally, but it discusses how trees grow and age and how a slower development changes them.
@real_tveh@_cturner I'm in the middle of rehabbing a 96 year-old building. I'm really glad it has old growth joists, though most of the benefit is being overbuilt not extra rings. They will outlast me. Night and day compared to the 70's era houses I grew up working on with my dad.
@fredstaffordcs If you're actually well intentioned here, I'd suggest you estimate the effect on realized distribution costs, because I think it reverses your conclusion. One specific roof may be poorly located, but at policy level, its aggregate metrics that matter.
@fredstaffordcs Rooftop solar is not "arbitrarily located DERs." Basically no residential rooftop setup in downstate would require significant upgrades. And even the worst case doesnt cancel out $283/MWh. You should find a job where you arent being paid to delay renewable adoption.
@NYEnergyAllies Agreed. NY doesn't have the level of renewable generation to make them as valuable as they could be. Hopefully Quebec starts getting more rain and CHPE changes that.
@JFPuget ELO is based on past games. I'd rather not take an empirical approach w. extinction level events. You should be looking to risk management, not just science for how to handle this. And it says dont take risks you cant come back from, even if your model says odds are in your favor
