@RLMiddleman Haha! Right!? She has anxiety and it only took until the last quarter of senior year to be able to ask to do a presentation with just the teacher and then FINALLY doing one in front of the whole class and say "it wasn't horrible" in the last weeks 😂

A security guard tailed me on my walk home tonight. He demanded if I lived there because “you look suspicious.” I showed my keys & buzzed myself into my building. He left, no apology. This is the reality of black girls: One day you’re called an icon, the next day, a threat.

Our students are always watching how we respond. They’re watching what is going on. They’re always watching.
I’ve learned a lot this year. One of the best lessons is to stop doing everything myself. I spend a lot more time asking students their opinions and ideas and giving them time to create. It’s been amazing.
