@ScottDKushner “Inability to find a kicker” brings to mind a maddening Saints personnel decision - trading Will Lutz to the Broncos in August 2023 in favor of Blake Grupe. Of course, the Grupe experiment only lasted until his unceremonious release on November 25, 2025. Accountability anyone?!

From ESPN Research: The Saints are the first team without a 10-yard rusher in a game since the Buccaneers against the Chiefs in 2022. It's the 3rd time in Saints history that the team has not had a 10-yard rusher in a game. Other times were in 1993 and 1980.
@BillSimmons calls out Jamahl Mosley’s coaching performance against the Nuggets. Pelicans fans desperately hope for significant changes in end-of-game coaching!
Watched a bunch of sports on the flight home from Boston last night. Jamahl Mosley’s coaching was so egregiously awful during the Pelicans mega-collapse in Denver that it looked like an early-April tank job — only it’s October and we have anti-tanking rules now.
@scottshanle The Saints caught lightning in a bottle with Sean Payton. It’s true Moore had an amazing record at Boise State (50-3), but his time as an assistant was short. Comparing Moore to Ron Rivera’s record, Saints fans expect results & this team‘s performance has been painful to watch.
@JeffDuncan_ Some additional historical perspective: the Saints have 584 rushing yards after 7 games. The 1978 & 1979 Saints led by Chuck Muncie & Tony Galbreath had 1,845 and 2,476 rushing yards respectively (16 game season). This Saints team is on pace for 1,336 yards through 16 games.
@RodWalkerNola These stats say it all. The Saints have 584 rushing yards after 7 games. The 1978 & 1979 Saints led by Chuck Muncie & Tony Galbreath had 1,845 and 2,476 rushing yards respectively (16 game season). This Saints team is on pace for 1,336 yards through 16 games. Very sad.
@MikeTriplett Once Etienne was injured, the Saints have been run-challenged. As promising as their Shough-led passing game is, they will be hard-pressed to win many games without a running game.
@DMGrubb Important missing context: the Pelicans lost the first 3 games in 2015-2016 111-95, 112-94 & 134-120 and in 2016-2017 107-102, 122-114 & 98-79. This year the Pelicans have led each game going into the 4th Quarter & narrowly lost each game.
@ProPelsTalk The Pelicans are still very much a work in process. The good news is that they have talented players, but a back-to-back away game against the Nuggets without Missi was always going to be a tall task.
@nick_underhill There is no chance of “turning the tide” if the Saints can’t stop the run or establish the run. Relying exclusively on Shough & the passing game will not be enough to win games against teams with good defenses.
A vascular surgeon reached out after hearing me talk about Hurts' situation on the podcast.
Posting his comments here for what it's worth:
“Small superficial clot, below the knee, I would let him play. Put on a stocking, stay hydrated, walk around the plane every hour. But, too many unknowns. Did this happen to him before? Did it happen to a parent, a sibling? If yes, changes things, I would be much more concerned.
I always ask myself. . . should this patient have a clot? Broken bone, in a cast. . .yes, a clot can happen. Young, healthy, active, uninjured- shouldn't have a clot.
Now he has progressed to an embolus. In my opinion, he should not have developed emboli from a cleat injury unless he has an underlying clotting disorder. These can be tricky to diagnose if there is no family or personal history. Like Chris Bosh, I'm concerned for his career.”
@ProPelsTalk Positives: 1) the Pels fought back in the 2nd half & 2) it was only Game 2 and Mosely is still figuring out things out. Negatives: Missi is injured and this roster is less than ideal. Having been a Jazz fan in the 70s, I’ll be happy with a competitive Pelicans team this year!
Aaron Rodgers on the Jalen Hurts situation and how the NFL has responded to it:
"I don't have a close relationship with Jalen. Obviously, we're in the quarterback fraternity, so you don't want to see anything like that happen to anybody. Especially a guy who's still in football. Obviously, I don't know all the details about what's going on. All I've seen is what's been printed. The guy in charge of all things medical at the NFL office, he and I haven't always seen eye-to-eye about things. So, I can't say I'm real surprised."
