For those of you celebrating the potential loss of the Dept of Education, I truly hope you don’t have children with special needs because you can kiss their education goodbye. Charter schools, private schools, and religious schools are under no obligation to serve them. There is no guarantee a new system would be beholden to Federal law.

That means there will be no educational setting that will have the resources to meet your child’s needs. The federal government is what gave you that ability. Non Public Schools are allowed to screen their applicants and refuse the ones that cost them money.

What a pickle that will be for you. A Free and Appropriate Education for your child will no longer be yours.

For everyone else it could make it much harder if not impossible to access financial assistance making to harder to access a secondary education.

College has always been available even to the poorest in order to help people elevate their status in life. This is no longer a guarantee.

Transferring student loans to the treasury also permits the possibility of discrimination on student loans keeping minorities out of the candidates and only supporting middle and upper class white students.

Any time people think the government is the problem often discover the government was best to handle it. What they would propose for the department of education would be a costly disaster.
