Planning to post a little less on here and a little more on https://t.co/tPhCYBrNte.
Give me a follow if you’d like to hear more theatre opinions that no-one asked for and some travel photography thrown in.
Well, wasn’t that just lovely? Think I was one of the few people @NationalTheatre tonight who wasn’t already familiar with #BalletShoes, but that didn’t mean I was any less taken in by its charms and slick direction. Highly recommend!
Even though the spoilers are 2,500 years old at this point, @robertwicke has worked his usual magic with @OedipusWestEnd and created a piece where your heart rarely leaves your mouth. You can’t help feeling this has been an exceptional year for drama in London theatre.
As we approach the final stretch, I’m reflecting back on a wonderful few months with the lovely company of #TheOVRealThing@oldvictheatre – perfectly encapsulated by the happy evening we spent hosting the legend himself, Sir Tom Stoppard. More of this, please!
…and how those dynamics shift over time. It’s astonishing really that Mark Rosenblatt, in his debut play no less, is able to distill all that mess and complexity into something so gripping and coherent. I see a lot of theatre and this was up there with the best. (2/2)
Reeling after #Giant@royalcourt. Not only for the way it holds a mirror up to current affairs, but also for the way it forces you to think about your own relationship to those in positions of power. The allowances you make for them, the compromises you come to… (1/2)
Another joyous night @The_Globe. This time with direction courtesy of my brilliant friend @RobinBelfield and company courtesy of my very own #PrincessEssex, @hollymatthams.
Lovely to see @lizziehopley and Eloise Secker up there too, providing big laughs alongside @anneodeke.
My grandma performed in amateur productions of Seán O’Casey’s work when she first moved over from Ireland in the 50s. His plays offered a sense of community at a time when anti-Irish sentiment was rife in the UK. So it meant a lot to watch @JunoPaycockPlay tonight.
.@LindsFerrentino’s THE FEAR OF 13 will surely be a major contender come awards season. It’s slickly directed, designed and performed by a terrific ensemble cast led by @adrienbrody and #NanaMensah. Get a ticket if you can!
An entrancing tale of fate, family and unseen forces in 1980s Ireland.
Coming up in April 2025, The Brightening Air is a world premiere from Olivier Award-winning writer & director Conor McPherson (The Weir, Girl from the North Country).

Eyebrows now raised in a state of permanent amazement after watching Tituss Burgess (@Instatituss) and @MoyaAngela sing their faces off @phoenixartsclub tonight.
Just mindblowing 🤯
From dreaming big dreams in the office to making her professional stage debut in @HairsprayUKTour and smashing it. Endlessly proud of @gpa_grace (#GraceAnyiam). This autograph is gonna be worth a fortune one day!
Was reminded tonight of the genius of Kazuo Ishiguro. His seminal novel #NeverLetMeGo is brought brilliantly to life @Rosetheatre in this quietly powerful adaptation by Suzanne Heathcote and @chrishaydon99. The three leads particularly impressive.
I truly felt I was in the presence of greatness watching @thealexnewell@cadoganhall tonight – makes a nice change from watching them on repeat on YouTube. And that’s not even to mention the special appearance by @marishawallace. Call me an ambulance.
Had all but given up hope of seeing #TheYears@AlmeidaTheatre. But by some miracle got to see it this afternoon. And it is in itself some kind of miracle. One of the best shows I’ve seen this year – feels like essential viewing.
They don’t make ‘em like this anymore, do they? Director Jordan Fein and Designer @tomscuttdesign have created a world in which this classic material truly comes alive.
