There is so much wastage of public funds across our bloated state, yet the Labour government seeks ways to penalise the aspirational and hardworking through punitive taxation, in order to maintain that waste.
Politics often feels like there’s a mountain to climb so it was a joy to hike up a real mountain with the ever inspiring @GillianKeegan and @michaelkeegan14. The perfect day in the sun with wonderful friends ☀️⛰️
After very nearly five years as Association Chair for @ConservativeHSP I stood down from the Chair’s role last night.
It has been an absolute honour to lead our fantastic Association and I am very grateful for the support I have received and the friends I have made along the way. I wish the new HSPCA leadership team the very best as they take the Association forward from here.
Balancing the need to build more homes with the desire to protect green spaces is one of the conundrums of our time. So it was encouraging to hear common sense from @SirSimonClarke and @kevinhollinrake at the @ukonward YIMBY and @CFT_UK reception last night. Rebuilding the party, building our nation.
Thank you @RichCubitt for hosting
It may have fallen out of the news, but the Birmingham bin strikes continue and the row over Angela Rayner’s suspension from Unite serves to remind us. How awful for the residents of Birmingham, in this heat too.
"We’re getting more teachers into our classrooms"
Phillipson is just an outright liar - there are 400 fewer teachers than last year - DFE's own website says so!
-He says "we're recruiting more teachers into schools"
-He said VAT would pay for more teachers in state schools
-But recently he said this money was going on housing instead
-And actually there are 400 fewer teachers under Labour
-Yet he just repeats the lie. Shameless!
A throwback to last year’s National Convention campaign. I was calling for the Party to support our council election campaigns as staunchly as our parliamentary campaigns and I’m sorry didn’t get the chance to take that to the Party Board as NC Chair.
This is humiliating for Starmer.
He’s been forced to do the right thing by the review that he commissioned to avoid doing the right thing.
He put political convenience ahead of justice for the girls who were abused. He should hang his head in shame.
If Baroness Casey is now calling for a national inquiry into grooming gangs, it proves what I’ve been saying all year: only a full statutory inquiry will expose the truth, bring justice for survivors, and stop this evil from happening again.
Yet every time we’ve called for action, Keir Starmer has said no. He’s put process over justice, legal caution over moral clarity. If Casey joins survivors and Conservatives in demanding an inquiry, the Prime Minister will have no excuse left.
Starmer must stop being a lawyer and start being a leader.
The National Convention officer elections have been announced, a good couple of months earlier than last year. When I stood for the NC Chairmanship last year, I realised that very few members understood what the NC is. Allow me to help: https://t.co/cFwbprZVih
A billion a month on UC benefits for overseas nationals? This is mathematically unsustainable, even before you get on to considering whether it’s morally right or wrong. Bravo @NeilDotObrien for shining a light on this.
