Although it took an exceptionally long time to get this out to you all, I am extremely proud of my first manuscript . This study could not have been possible without @sparuniisc's invaluable guidance and the excellent resources and support from @psychopy. Please read below:
In a new study, out now in Attention Perception & Psychophysics, Thomas Cherian (@copy2thomas) and I have some exciting insights into what we see when an object is occluded. Like all good things, the origin of this study was simple curiosity. Consider the picture below: 1/25

The recent Memorandum from DoPT requiring mandatory checking-in on their digital system at workplaces is a good initiative in principle to deal with absenteeism of government officials. But surely some flexibility is called for in the case of those, like scientists & technical staff working under various scientific departments of the Govt, or emergency responders, or even drivers of senior officials, who are obliged to keep irregular hours. Eg., Depending on the research work they are engaged in, scientists often work beyond office hours, even up to midnight some days. Rather than requiring them to turn up for work early the next day, they could be evaluated based on the total number of hours they put in. An 8 to 10 hour work day (or a 40 to 50 hour work week) should surely suffice to demonstrate their sincerity, rather than they time they punch the clock in the morning? @DrJitendraSingh

Data fraud is often framed as a victimless crime--or else the perpetrators frame themselves as the victim.
But the true victims are often graduate students who struggle to replicate a prominent study, face professional ostracism, and their only recourse is to leave the field or become a whistleblower.
The @NewYorker has a fantastic article today revealing how the fraud from Dan Ariely and Francesa Gino's research was originally identified by @ZoeZiani and shared with @DataColada https://t.co/8CBydZacHV
I encourage people to read this article to see what happens when a grad student is skeptical about the strength of a paper. Her career was completely derailed and she was pressured not to criticize flimsy research.
She had to report it anonymously and @datacolada had to do the labor of investigating and stick their necks out (and get sued). This is such a broken system and a lot of people are implicated in perpetuating the problem.
