This week, we celebrated National Poetry week with a workshop delivered by poet Laura Baldwin @Literacy_Trust . Our Y7-9 worked with Y4 Nields JIN to listen, read and create their own minute poems.
Laura’s visit has inspired them to enter the Young Laureate competition!

On Wednesday 2nd October, as part of our National Poetry Day celebrations, a professional poet came into school to deliver a talk to Y9.

Laura Baldwin is a local poet, who has recently had her first poetry collection published entitled: ‘It’s Just Me’. Many of Laura’s poems include her journey of faith as a Christian woman as well as writing about topical issues in society.

During her visit, Laura informed students about the National Literacy Trust’s West Yorkshire Young Poet Laureate Competition, which is open to all Y9 students.

The visit was enjoyed by our students, some of whom are already working on their competition entries. Many thanks to Laura for a great event.
