Thanks to the Coquitlam Sunrise Rotary Club for inviting us to speak this morning. Margaret and Georgia enjoyed sharing an overview of the watershed and the work of our Society, answering thoughtful questions, and having great conversations with such an engaged group.
Flood protection and other critical infrastructure is front-and-centre in the 2026-2027 Capital Plan. Port Coquitlam Council approved a capital budget for the next two years that continues the Cityโs focus on getting the basics right, with key investments in transportation, recreation, drainage and other infrastructure.
โBy necessity, these are lean budgets for lean times. Weโre keeping the impact on taxpayers front of mind while continuing to deliver the services, infrastructure and amenities our community relies on,โ Brad West, Port Coquitlam Mayor said. โThe capital plan for the next two years is focused on critical infrastructure and maintaining our assets. As we finalize our 2026 capital projects and draft operating budget in the weeks ahead, staff have been directed to pursue ways to reduce costs while minimizing impacts to residents.โ
In 2026, we're continuing with progress on key recreation, transportation and flood-protection projects such as:
โ โฝ Gates Park Soccer Hub
โ ๐ฅ New multi-use sport facility
โ ๐ง New and upgraded pump stations
โ ๐ฃ๏ธ Kingsway Avenue upgrades
Details at https://t.co/YiQ4nNMbj2. Watch for information in mid-January for the draft 2026 operating budget and public engagement opportunities, to be posted at https://t.co/MrvA4qhCHM.
