Both women received severe injuries after a near fatal rollover crash when another car swerved into their lane head on.

Made worse when the daughter suffered a seizure—after the trauma of seeing her mother violently handcuffed.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office contacted ICE after deciding the women's paperwork looked suspicious.

They have an ongoing formal cooperation agreement with ICE.

She wasn't accused of hurting anyone.
She was a disabled U.S. veteran living with Parkinson's disease who repeatedly called 911 because she couldn't get out of bed, reach her medication, or meet basic daily needs.
Instead of long-term support, she was arrested.

According to a WTOC investigation, the woman called 911 more than 140 times over nine months.
Adult Protective Services was contacted multiple times, yet the gaps in care remained.
She was eventually jailed twice and later placed on probation for misuse of 911.

This story raises a much bigger question.
When seniors and people with serious medical conditions have nowhere else to turn, are we treating a healthcare crisis like a criminal one?

Families caring for loved ones with Parkinson's, dementia, or other chronic illnesses know how quickly a lack of support can become an emergency.
