Game 2:
Detroit Edison used a 14-2 1st half run to turn a 5-pt deficit into an 18-11 advantage. Northville answered with an 8-pt run to go up by 1, but Edison scored the last FG of the 1st half and the 1st FG of the 2nd half to go up 23-19. They held a slight lead the rest of the way, but couldn't quite pull away as Northville stayed within striking distance the rest of the way and cut it to 39-37 late before an Edison fast break layup by Marianna Jones all but sealed it. Detroit Edison wins 43-37.

Sr Detroit Mercy signee Marianna Jones (pictured, #15) led the way for Detroit Edison with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Jr Rihanna Young (pictured, #24) added 10 points along with 6 assists and 5 steals.

Jr Peyton Sivier got after it on the boards out-hustling Edison's bigger lineup to the ball repeatedly, especially early in the game (at one point early in the 2nd qtr she was out-rebounding Edison herself 9-7); she finished with an 11-&-15 double-double along with 3 steals and 3 blocked shots. Jr Sophia Fraas and sr Carly Pelon added 10 & 8 points, respectively.

Game 1:
What is the old saying, "I have seen enough to know that I have seen too much". I have just seen a team win a tied game.

The "official" scorebook guy had the scorebook all messed up (putting FTs for the wrong players & wrong team, & not having FTs altogether) & the scoreboard was putting points on the wrong side in the 2nd qtr. Thus, when Detroit Country Day hit a pull up jumper and a FT on back-to-back possessions to cut a 16-12 deficit to 16-15, the scoreboard went 18-12, then 15-15, then 16-14, & ended up reading 17-14 (despite the total points of the players on the scoreboard totaling up to 16-15). The "official" scorebook guy was the only person in the gym that thought the score was 17-14 and dug in his heels, even refusing to be corrected by the Edison scorebook keeper, who tried to help him out even though his error helped Edison.

The game remained close throughout the 2nd half. Down the stretch, with the scoreboard reading 39-36 (actually 38-37), Naiya Krispin hit a pull up 3 for Country Day to tie it up on the scoreboard (actually 38-40). Edison advanced the basketball and called a timeout with just over 0:10 remaining. Rihanna Young got the ball on the left side of the court and drove baseline to hit a left-handed floater. Country Day didn't get a shot off and Edison took a 41-39 (actually 40-40) victory.

Jr Rihanna Young (pictured) stepped up big in the 2nd half, scoring 8 of her team-high 12 points after intermission, including her game-winning shot, while also adding 5 assists. Sr Detroit Mercy signee Marianna Jones looked comfortable on her future home court, amassing a well-rounded 9 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals.

For Detroit Country Day, sr Naiya Krispin had a big 2nd half as well with 13 of her game-high 15 points after the break. Jr Sanyiah Blackwell added 11 points and 8 rebounds. 6'1" fr MaKayla Sykes grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.

Game 1:
[This is my 150th game of the HS season.]
Detroit Edison used an early 10-0 run to build a 14-1 lead & took their biggest 1st half lead at 22-7 late in the 1st qtr. But Kalamazoo Christian scored 12 straight (7 by Elli VanDusen) to pull within 22-19. After an Edison FG, VanDusen finished an old-fashioned 3-pt play to further cut it to 24-22. However, Edison responded by outscoring them 13-4 the rest of the half to increase the margin back to double-digits & then scored the 1st 6 points of the 2nd half to go up 43-26. Edison goes on to win 65-44.

Sr University of California signee Isis Johnson-Musah (pictured, #2) & soph Rihanna Young (pictured, #24) combined for 39 points & 8 steals to lead Edison. Johnson-Musah attacked the basket aggressively, using her athleticism & body control to score around & over defenders. Young hit a trio of 3s & also scored smoothly off the drive.

5'11" soph Elli VanDusen showed her versatility in scoring from the outside & attacking the rim, finishing 2 old-fashioned 3-pt plays; she led Kalamazoo Christian with 22 points & 7 rebounds. Sr Jordyn Bonnema added 13 points & 4 assists.
