A Brief History of This Fort
The Dutch paid ground rent directly to the Asantehene. 😎
After the Asante war of independence from Denkyira, all the territories and towns formerly under Denkyira’s control automatically came under Asante authority. This included most alliances and trade agreements among them the famous “Kostbrief” (also known as the Elmina Note).
This agreement stated that the Dutch were paying ground rent to the Denkyirahene. So when the Asantes defeated Denkyira at the Battle of Feyiase, they became the new power in the region. The Dutch therefore had to honor the same arrangement with the Asantes. This arrangement continued until the Dutch finally left the Gold Coast.
When the Dutch were preparing to depart, they informed the British that they could not sell the fort because it rightfully belonged to the Asantes under the terms of the Elmina agreement. Although the British did pay and in fact doubled the amount to avoid provoking Asante aggression they refused to call it “ground rent,” instead labeling it “trade stipends.”
But who cares what they called it, as long as the money kept coming? 😂

A Takoradi-based Islamic cleric, identified as Mallam Anas, has been declared wanted over allegations of sexually abusing more than twenty(20) children between the ages of six(6) and ten(10) at his local mosque.

According to reports, the suspect is alleged to be a serial offender whose previous conduct in communities where he formerly resided reportedly led to his eviction and banishment, with some allegations said to date back to as far as 2008.

In a disturbing audio recording allegedly involving one of the victims, the suspect is heard admitting to the act and urging the child to remain silent about the incident.

Amid growing pressure from concerned residents for his arrest and a formal complaint, the middle-aged suspect reportedly fled the area and is currently at large.
