I used to frequently get hit with copyright infringement claims across Instagram, here on Twitter, and Youtube for posting clips of music/music mixes and playlists. Now all I see are music pages across every platform.
As an artist (especially an r&b one) you need to make your music go viral on social media BEFORE a label will decide to push it as hard as they should in the first place. It’s the unfortunate truth about the music industry in this day and age.
I visited several accounts today looking for videos to reshare specific artists music for a list I’m publishing this Friday, and some of them had NO actual music of theirs on their page, not even as the soundtrack to their pictures.
If you’re a music artist, especially an upcoming one, your main social media account needs to be filled with YOUR MUSIC and not just pictures of yourself. It’s cool to want to be a fashion girl too, but from a marketing perspective, you’re doing yourself a disservice.
This is important. I see it too often lately. You have to think of every platform as a chance to introduce yourself to a new audience. If someone comes across you on insta and hasn’t heard your music, you should have something there to make them want to explore your discography.
