Sir Ian McKellen rompió en lágrimas durante el rodaje de El Hobbit por el uso excesivo de CGI y pantallas verdes.

Llegó a grabar todas sus escenas en solitario en un estudio y luego juntaban las tomas con otros actores digitalmente.

Dijo que se sentía miserable por tener que grabar en estas condiciones y tenía una sensación enorme de aislamiento ya que sir Ian McKellen venía del teatro, medio en el cual estaba acostumbrado a interactuar con personas reales.
