Canada’s largest agency serving youth who are homeless, trafficked or at risk #covenanthousetoronto

A storm of circumstance shouldn't cost an entire future.

No young person chooses the streets.

It starts with a family safety net that snaps under pressure. A sudden job loss, a historic housing crisis, a mental health system bursting at the seams.

At Covenant House, we don’t just provide a roof to stop the rain. We offer the unconditional support that helps young people move from weathering a crisis to reclaiming their futures.

Thank you, Honourable @RobFlackEML, Minister of Municipal Affairs & Housing, for taking the time to meet and discuss the youth homelessness crisis in our city. We’re grateful for the opportunity to share how Covenant House Toronto is working to prevent youth homelessness before it begins and to support young people in breaking the cycle early when it starts. We look forward to our continued partnership supporting our community's next generation. 💙

Since the early 1970s, @CovenantHouse has helped over 100,000 young people facing homelessness or trafficking find safe shelter, support, and hope.

This week, I met with Mark Aston, Executive Director of @CovenantHouseTO, to discuss how we can continue supporting vulnerable youth and strengthen the not-for-profit sector.

We’re grateful for the vital work Covenant House does to help young people rebuild their lives and futures.

Sex trafficking is one of Canada’s most misunderstood crimes. With National Human Trafficking Awareness Day around the corner, we’re taking this opportunity to help people to understand how it happens, how to spot the signs and asking Canadians to have early conversations about online safety with the young people in their lives to help prevent this crime.

This year’s theme, 30 Years of Black History Month: Honouring Black Brilliance Across Generations — From Nation Builders to Tomorrow’s Visionaries, is a powerful reminder of the resilience and leadership of Black communities across Canada.

A number of activities are planned throughout the house this month for youth and staff to learn and reflect about this important history.

Sex trafficking is a crime taking place in Canada right now. Yet many Canadians still believe it couldn’t happen to their child. The truth is it can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere regardless of age, income, sexual orientation, gender or neighbourhood, with warning signs that can be easily missed. Awareness, education and dialogue are essential to help keep young people safe.

If you’re a parent, caregiver, teacher, or someone who wants to learn more, join our webinar on January 22 via Zoom. No registration is required — please use the Zoom details to join the session.
