Third-and-long has been a frustrating situation for Bills fans. The Bills have leaned heavily on Cover 3 while rarely mixing in Cover 1, making their intentions easier to diagnose.

With the changes to the scheme and the additions at cornerback, I expect a much more balanced approach between Cover 1 and Cover 3 - creating better disguise, more uncertainty for quarterbacks, and a more effective third-down defense.

One trend that is consistent throughout the NFL is the use of a 2-High shell & weak rotation Cover 3 on 3rd & Long/XL downs.

Show split-field/Cover 2 pre-snap, shift to Cover 3 post-snap.

The Weak Safety shuffles with vision into the High Hole near the sticks, cutting off any deep Cross or Dig from the passing strength.
