@DavidPa86591889 The access to substance abuse treatment in Kentucky’s prison system is a joke. Many inmates stay on waiting lists for the entire duration of their sentences or until they make parole. They are then released back to their old environments with no tools to help them succeed!

All non-violent drug offenders should at some point be eligible to have their records expunged. In Kentucky only a few Class D felonies qualify. 48% of state inmates are repeat offenders with drug charges. No hope for the future equals no change in behavior! #WKUsocialworkpolicy

We need to advocate for legislation to improve the quality of care, access, and reimbursement as it pertains to mental health. We also need to be sure there are culturally sensitive/appropriate resources available for all ethnicities! #WKUsocialworkpolicy

Everyone should have access to the proper care required to deal with mental health disorders. Those on Medicaid often have difficulty getting treatment they need due to Medicaid not reimbursing the full amount to providers. #WKUsocialworkpolicy

@byler_whitney I don’t guess I understand how that works. I thought anyone who fell below a certain income level automatically qualifies for Medicaid in Kentucky. It’s definitely not fair. All races should have equal opportunity to be treated during this pandemic!

@lauren_wkumsw I totally agree that everyone should have access to some sort of healthcare! Too many companies don’t let employees work enough hours where they have to offer insurance to them, yet they make too much to qualify for Medicaid!

NASW supports the prioritization of child safety. Children that live with parents who suffer from substance use issues are at a greater risk to develop addiction to substances. We must help these parents get the help they need, so the kids have safe homes! #WKUsocialworkpolicy

@KennonKaitlyn There really is no security for these individuals. Many try to get better paying jobs, but with slight wage increases, lose their eligibility to receive SNAP benefits. Many feel they are better off working the absolute minimum, just to keep their benefits! It’s a vicious cycle!

We need to come together to increase implementation of strategies that aim to help the homeless find safe, affordable, more permanent housing. Living in poverty has many families one accident or illness away from living on the streets! #WKUsocialworkpolicy
