CHEC Port City Colombo (Pvt) Ltd. has extended Rs. 10 million and critical on-ground support to Sri Lanka’s national recovery efforts following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah.
Announced on 2nd December 2025, the company stepped forward as thousands of families remain displaced, infrastructure damaged, and communities in urgent need of assistance.
To support long-term reconstruction, CHEC Port City Colombo donated Rs. 10 million to the Government’s newly established ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ Fund, managed by the Presidential Secretariat.
The contribution was formally handed over by Managing Director Xiong Hongfeng to Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, Secretary to the Treasury, with coordination by the Colombo Port City Economic Commission.
Beyond financial aid, the company has deployed 12 heavy disaster-response machines including excavators, loaders, backhoes, flatbed trucks, and dump trucks to accelerate debris clearance, restore access routes, and support rescue operations. CHEC is also providing specialized engineering expertise for emergency bridge repairs, road reconstruction, and restoring connectivity to isolated communities.
All necessary skilled personnel have been mobilized by the company to ensure uninterrupted field support.
As a 100% subsidiary of China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC), with over 25 years in Sri Lanka, CHEC Port City Colombo emphasized its longstanding partnership, highlighting that its commitment goes beyond development projects to supporting communities in times of national crisis.
Port City Colombo hosted SL Engineering Service (Grade III) officers from SLIDA for an educational visit under their Induction Training Programme — fostering awareness on investment, regulation, and infrastructure progress as part of Sri Lanka’s landmark urban development.
