I was contacted by a transplant surgeon last week who wants to get out of the business, saying that he just can’t do it anymore. I was able to connect him with another former transplant surgeon who quit after realizing that the donors aren’t dead, and who now works as a general surgeon.

“Brain dead” donors are not dead: they are neurologically injured, and have only been redefined as being dead for the sake of procuring their valuable, viable organs. “Circulatory death” organ donors have their organs procured during a timeframe when resuscitation is still possible, meaning that they are not known to be dead either. Obtaining organs from these still-living people is ultimately a concealed form of physician-assisted death. People deserve full transparency about these facts before they register to become organ donors.

I want to paint a picture of how corrupt our medical and political system is…

Here you have a congresswoman weaponizing a struggling mom’s story to score political points.

But look at what she’s really done… she put this woman, visibly struggling with obesity, in front of the entire country without any regard for the unintended consequences. Now this mom is being torn apart by the lay public, facing fat shaming and cruelty online. That shame is now part of her story forever.

And no one will say the uncomfortable truth: her obesity is no moral failing. It is the direct result of the very system Klobuchar champions.

SNAP feeds the poor with cheap, ultra-processed food. It subsidizes the products of the industrial food system… the very foods that drive obesity, diabetes, and chronic illness.

Nobody teaches these families how to eat differently. In fact, many of the so-called nutrition guidelines pushed through SNAP are written in collaboration with corporate lobbyists who profit from keeping Americans sick and addicted to cheap carbohydrates and seed oils.

This mom is doing everything she can… working multiple jobs, raising kids, and relying on a broken system that undermines her health.

Instead of real reform… like teaching metabolic health, giving people access to real food, and removing the corporate capture/subsidies of our nutrition programs… politicians parade victims of this system for sound bites and headlines.

It’s disgusting.

If we actually cared about helping this mom and millions like her, we’d stop subsidizing metabolic disease and start funding real solutions.
