@LoveInner An absolute classic - every time I hear it I’m reminded of how good it is.
Much like the Du Pre Elgar concerto or the Rattle Mahler 2 with the CBSO.
@LoveInner I associate Bernstein (and Karajan and Bohm etc) with the days I bought vinyl - which seems an age ago.
My idea of modern recording really starts with the CD - Rattle, Jarvi, Du Toit.
Still the case with downloads - except now we have Vanska, Oramo, Currentzis etc.
@EScheider4764@musicandroots The Zinman was 15 years ago - why shouldn’t they have another cycle?
I’m guessing the Berlin and Vienna Phil had a few more than cycles than Zurich.
@EScheider4764@musicandroots That’s what I just said - you invest in a recording without realistic hope of making a profit, but reap greater financial rewards in the long run.
And I never mentioned record companies.
@EScheider4764@musicandroots Of course they do - better marketing leads to higher profile leads to invites to more prestigious festivals etc.
With the end result the orchestra gets wealthier.
@EScheider4764@musicandroots If recordings of Mahler aren’t needed no-one would buy them. The proliferation of new recordings implies there is a market for them - unless they’ve miscalculated.
Might be interesting to see the data.
