Mirror frame now finished - maple wood using open mitred M&T joints. Glad I stretched myself a little when designing it, definitely feel like I’ve learned more along the way. #woodworking
Started a mirror frame in maple today... never tried a mitred mortice and tenon joint before, already wondering if I should have gone with an easier joint! I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it by the time I do the 4th corner 😅 #woodworking
@northernsoul54 Thanks Jennifer! Still a little concerned for the other pond life as it’s not huge and never seen turtles there before, but good to know it’s not necessarily an invasive species etc.
Saw this little turtle (?) in the Howardian nature reserve today... not sure he’s a local species! RSPCA only advising on emergency cases right now, anyone have any advice? #cardiffwildhour
Bottling day - brewed this blackberry, apple and elderberry wine back in September. I’ll let it rest in the bottles a while before trying.. hope the wait is worth it! #homebrew
Just completed my 1st year @CoBCollege after finishing my french polished panel (well, as close as I was going to get!) and my chess table. What an amazing experience - hope summer goes quick so I can start year 2! My younger self would not recognise this feeling... #woodworking
Chopping board is on the way out so made a new one out of some local waney edge ash. I’ll give it a few more coats of ‘butchers block oil’ to toughen it up before using. #woodworking
Finished this chessboard tabletop for my table today - oak and rosewood veneers set in sapele. Massive thanks to my awesome @CoBCollege tutor for the advice yesterday when it all went wrong - I glued and pressed the bloody thing upside down! Salvaged today and very relieved..!
Table is on its way.. I tapered the legs and used a spindle moulder for the first time today to add the grooves on the inside faces of the rails. Next stop: sanding it down and glueing it up! #woodworking
Working on a side table - did the mortices on the legs today and just started the rail tenons. I usually work with local / UK wood as a preference but changing things up for more experience - Sapele legs and Black American Walnut rails on this one, maybe with a Maple tabletop? 🤔
Isn’t wood incredible? The colours on this spalted beech.. Beech serving platter with splits filled in with epoxy and gold powder (Kintsugi style - celebrate the imperfections!) #woodworking#kintsugi
