Instead of changing the TTRPG term “race” to “species”, what if we change it to “people”?
We use in it in anthropology all the time. It’s a pretty great sway to distinguish sapient groups without dehumanizing them.

@MatthiastheGM As far as specific systems go, I find that dnd-ers tend to really enjoy Deadlands. And World of Darkness is very different but a great system to dive into for those feeling adventurous.
