I want you to look back on your learning machine and decide if you’d rather the masses of screaming customers or a safe place for users. Get humans on those tickets now.

@discord_support While I haven’t been affected by, this gives those not affected the anxiety that whatever they do might result in a false positive and give unfair punishment for the simple act of using the platform. You need to get your crap together and get the tickets it’s hiding actually done

Sooo since Discord Support responded to my original post, I would like to respond to their response:

1) A Discord employee replied to my original post saying that it was “misinformation” and that “this has nothing to do with AI” which, no offence to them, but I think this is nonsense. For example, this official Discord article: https://t.co/qg5O3unaBK explains how Discord uses “machine learning”, which is a subset of Artificial Intelligence.
Also, the employee misunderstood my post, I was trying to make a general point about the problems with AI moderation on Discord and they took it as if I was only referring to that one specific issue. (No hate to them obviously)

2) Adding on from that, I do believe that if Discord has to use AI for moderation, it has to be changed. The current system is fucked up and causes thousands of people to falsely lose their accounts when they have done nothing wrong. The incident this weekend was one example, but not just that, MILLIONS of people get false bans because of AI all the time!! This even happened to an owner of the unofficial Roblox server, a server which has 1m+ members and is a partnered server with Discord themselves! Link: https://t.co/XalHxhxZaU
The best way to fix this going forward would be to, at the very least, give everyone an option to choose to have a human reviewer for all support tickets & appeals. I’m pretty sure Roblox already does this but I could be wrong, regardless of that it would be great if Discord and other companies like YouTube adopt this. A lot of the time, clankers are stupid and make unfair decisions, which can end up ruining people’s lives. A lot of people rely on their accounts for stuff like work or to communicate with friends and that can be taken away from them because of something that isn’t even their fault.

3) Discord claims that they’ve unbanned everyone, however I’ve seen a lot of people who are still banned because of sending grid images. Yeah… soooo… they can’t just be lying to us like that.

I don’t want to feed into the paranoia from the last few days, but I sincerely want to know if the grid issue was solved. Most of my art is on notebook paper, which was a recorded trigger. I’m aware many are still banned but it may take time to manually remove all the bans.

@tallcowyt Thank you for being the one to help bring this issue into the spotlight enough for Discord to address the issue, but some users are saying it’s not completely as they’re still flagged or banned. I know it might take time to properly review over 8,400 complaints manually by human.

@jalibx @discord_support It said the 200 was this weekend. It’s grammatically correct but it is still pretty disgusting to say something is fixed when it hasn’t by the evidence throughout the thread. It still showed an accurate estimation through nearly 3 months, but still need to ditch the problem bot.

@naranchans @Tyrvana @Pirat_Nation Same. I just hate the anxiety this spurred in me cause I had one incident where it took over a year to get my old account back from a scam report. Took forever to get it back to my original email. I pray that they learned from this incident and genuinely try to fix the issues.

@naranchans @Tyrvana @Pirat_Nation People are showing they’re still banned now but I’m trying to be optimistic and guessing they’re attempting to manually remove them now, so it’s going to take a while to get to all the ignored tickets after being in loop bot hell.

@Tyrvana @Pirat_Nation Supposedly, a bug in the review process gave the bot that scans the images the ability to ban them based on PhotoDNA without the human input. I’d still be careful about posting grids but it’s very disappointing that due to a lack of proper safety moderation, we’re getting Aminoed

@RabbitMario1 @discord_support And I’m glad they addressed it. People are still upset as they’re still flagged or banned, but I understand it takes a while to manually remove the bans. Especially if it’s over 8,400 users that were affected.

But they should replace the bot messages and not give it the ability to mark an unresolved issue as “solved” but have it sorted and held till a human moderator can address it. Or at least reasonably flag something and wait till humans determine it is a violation.

@svishnevskiy @discord @discord_support I understand that it will take time to manually reinstate banned accounts affected by this issue, but take this as a sign that using AI moderation is not a substantial way to conduct safety measures. You need to abandon this venture and get a real safety team that can help.

@discord_support Use some of that money to hire real people to make these types of calls and not an AI bot that can get spontaneous abilities to ban users. And please have humans respond to the help tickets and not a bot that will mark issues as solved when you did jack all.

@discord_support Thank you for the fix but this should be a sign that AI is unreliable and you all as a company should take this as a lesson. Don’t trust programs that have the possibility to fail. It’s time to trash the AI and hire real people to moderate instead of “algorithm don’t know box”.

@laserdog10 @discord_support My best guess is that they’re manually removing the bans to explain why so many are still banned despite the fix. I’m not making excuses for them, but I’m trying to rationalize why it’s taking so long to remove over 8,400 bans or flags. We can’t trust their AI to do that.
