A very nostalgic dad running an AI company making a turn-based browser-based CRPG with OSRIC rules, homebrew and AD&D 2e inspiration for his autistic son
@luislodosm Money is not a motivation. The number of things that exist and I could buy, but I have no use for, is always underestimated.
My thoughts would be the same.
I think the game is not even a game to me. Its real purpose to me is a journey or a vessel for education and experience.
I game SO little these days. And when I do, I feel it would be more rewarding to work on my own game.
And then I think of how fun it would be to play if it were totally completed and not just a beta early access.
And then I get back to thinking, what would I then do for fun and entertainment?
I considered going open source as well. It would be fun to create a community. But then I also know that I would have to give away control. And then it would be a better game for sure. More accessible and streamlined. But that would make it not my game.
The old-school thinking behind the UX is part of the experience. Something that others might not understand and want to carry forward.
Could I find people who would understand the vision and want to carry it in the same direction?
So many thoughts are running around in my head.
It is a strange feeling.
Do I just accept that it is better to never finish and be in perpetual beta?
I am not making the game to make any money. There are a few supporters, and the costs are limited to power for the laptop that runs the server and tokens used for TTS and impersonation of the characters and NPCs.
I can´t do completely free access, because I don´t want to spend money.
I don´t know, man. I am conflicted.
I think it is mainly just for me, and I´m not that selfish either, so I will let others enjoy it too.
Big black hypnotic eels ...
It started raining 2 years ago and hasn't stopped since.
In the beginning, it was just wet and annoying. Now, everything is mud.
And as if the rain and the mud weren't enough, the black eels started showing up
... and everything got a lot stranger
Who cares. We are just having fun. I am certainly. I don't think I have had this much fun making stuff since the 90s
I am having a great day, and I even have some questions for you to think about.
Do you like to be angry? Is it you? Signalling with anger what your moral values are and expecting praise and recognition?
And if it is just for fun, why are you so scared?
Alright,
You want to have a grown-up debate, and there you go again with the ad hominem attacks and degrading against a strawman you built in your head. And you are perfectly fine raging at this imaginary persona you built, delusionally thinking that is me, and you know who I am from 3 X-posts.
Take it easy, man. You are not on a healthy path here.
I'm a software architect and engineer. My first computer was an Osborne 1, which I inherited from my uncle, who taught me Basic and Turbo-Pascal.
I've been doing everything from small business invoice management to massive corporate webshops for the past 30 years.
I picked up on where AI and programming were going back in 2021.
In the worst possible way, this is like watching the myth about frogs getting boiled. They say if you just raise the temperature ever so slowly, they don't even notice.
The cooking began back in 2017.
Sincerely, if you are beaten by AI already, you really need to get better.
You do need professional help with the anger issues. You probably would have hit me a while ago if this were IRL. You should work on that. It is not going to benefit you anywhere.
I say on to the @TheBillyWest
What an absolutely horrible, inhumane and entitled way to think.
May your ass forever be itchy and your arms eternally be too short to reach.
Saying the quiet part out loud.
After an online hate mob bullied
Jorge R. Gutierrez out of using AI,
voice actor Billy West chimes in
and tells us the real reason:
The collapse of the barrier to entry
is not acceptable.
Only established artists
are allowed to create.
@AndrewDarovich You really are so angry at a person who doesn't exist anywhere else but in your head.
I really hope you get better. I would hate to be in your shoes.
I will pray for you.
It would be tough for you if you found out how wrong you are. Out of respect for you, I won't justify myself.
The man you wish I was, to justify your bitterness, lives only in your mind, fed by your personality and your own anger.
Why are you so angry at a random person who lives only in your mind?
@AndrewDarovich Relax. It's OK dude. You didn't spend the time to educate yourself on how wrong you are.
I hope the best for you and that you get well soon.
LOL ... Is that the goal posts squeaking from being pushed so far? This is what full tilt looks like.
Get better!
If you aren't better than AI, or even better with AI, you're not good enough to get paid anyway.
The road to hell is paved with entitled asshole artists who think their particular art is a special kind of unique gift to mankind.
Nah, dude. Just like me, you are a random nobody. Except there is a difference. I am a happy content nobody with a good and happy life. Whereas you are an angry, bitter, entitled nobody who thinks you deserve better.
