Still wild to me that BYU’s longtime media partner, ESPN, left BYU’s résumé out of the CFP discussion entirely this past year.
BYU fans and even BYU’s official accounts had to photoshop BYU’s résumé into the conversation on social media in order for the general public to opine and get in on the convo 🤦🏼♂️ 😅
Objectively, how do you defend this:
Miami (10–2)
– ESPN SOS: 45
– ESPN SOR: 14
– Did not play for a conference championship
– Losses: Two 8–4 teams (SMU, Louisville)
BYU (11–2)
– ESPN SOS: 22
– ESPN SOR: 9
– Played in the Big 12 championship
– Losses: No. 4 Texas Tech on the road & in the Big 12 title game
Notre Dame (10–2)
– ESPN SOS: 44
– ESPN SOR: 13
– Did not play for a conference championship
– Losses: Miami (who lost to two 8–4 teams) & No. 7 Texas A&M

Not the point.
It’s blatantly biased and intellectual dishonest to grade resumes with objective metrics and not place BYU in the same conversation as the other three teams…. Purposefully leaving BYU off the grow his and leaving them out of the convo wreaks of putrid corruptive bias.

Gilbert Arenas told AJ Dybantsa that he would prefer him in Utah because that’s home and it’s his city.
Gil seemed genuinely confused when AJ corrected him and said Utah is not a city it’s a state. 😭
AJ is from Massachusetts and says Utah is not home. I think he enjoyed his time in Utah but that connection gets overblown a little too much in my opinion.
A lot to unpack in this short 45 second clip. 😂

Says he had $2.7 million in his first year of NIL, then $7 million, and then $10 million.
After he retired, he said it jumped to $17 million, then $24 million.

Former BYU basketball player Anson Winder joined @espnthefan to break down Richie Saunders' NBA fit:
Q: If Richie ends up being a second-round pick, what NBA team do you think would be a great fit for him?
Anson Winder: That’s a good question because I think he fits a lot of teams. You can always use a shooter. You can always use a hard-nosed guard who plays defense and makes open shots.
I think about a team like the Toronto Raptors. They could use more outside shooting and they value defensive toughness. I think Richie could contribute there immediately.
I also think about the Miami Heat. They value players who can shoot, play hard, and fit into a defined role. Richie checks a lot of those boxes.
One of the smartest things about Richie is that he understands who he is as a player. If your game is making open shots, defending, running the floor, and leading, then lean into those strengths. Richie has always been smart enough to do what he does best.

Lane Alo of Game Day Men's Health joined @espnthefan to break dow the Big 12 returning to an 18-game conference schedule:
Q: The Big 12 announced it's returning to an 18-game conference schedule. They played 18 games last season after previously using a 20-game format. That gives teams more flexibility for non-conference scheduling. Do you like that move?
Lane Alo: It depends on who you're scheduling with those extra opportunities.
Last year BYU had some really good non-conference games. Wisconsin comes to mind. Villanova comes to mind.
If you're replacing conference games with quality opponents that improve your strength of schedule, that's great. But if you're replacing them with games that don't really help you, then I'd rather just play another Big 12 opponent.
I'd rather play West Virginia or Arizona State again than schedule a game that doesn't move the needle.
If BYU were still in the West Coast Conference, it'd be a completely different discussion because there'd be more value in adding stronger opponents. But in the Big 12, conference games already provide a lot of value.

Lane Alo of Game Day Men's Health joined @espnthefan to react to the Big 12 voting for a 24-team playoff:
Q: The Big 12 coaches unanimously approved their preference for a 24-team College Football Playoff. The conference is holding its spring meetings right now, and all 16 coaches appear to support the format. What do you make of it?
Lane Alo: I think it depends on the composition of those 24 teams.
If we're talking about a situation where eight or ten teams are coming from the SEC and another six are coming from the Big Ten, then I don't really care for the number 24.
But if there's a more equitable distribution among conferences, then I'm for it. My favorite tournament of all time is March Madness. Obviously, we're never going to get that many teams in football, but I generally think the more teams you include, the more exciting the postseason becomes.
So I'm for expansion, but it's contingent on who's actually getting in. I don't want it to become a second SEC championship tournament.
