In today’s Melon interview, T.O.P said:
“I set one goal to build an album filled with timeless classical music, a complete work to the point that u can’t even tell what era it was made in. My dream is to create music that stays in people’s memories for a long time”
And honestly, that explains why T.O.P didn’t make his first album when he was under YG with BIGBANG, and why he didn’t do it even after the success of Thanos last year. A lot of people including me used to blame him, wondering why he didn’t take advantage of those huge moments of success. But maybe that’s bc we see things from a commercial perspective we like to capitalize on trends.
Meanwhile, he disappeared for 10 years something idols usually don’t do, bc being absent like that feels like you’re killing ur own fame with ur own hands.
After listening to the album more than 10 times, I can say it was worth every year of waiting. Not just bc of the musical quality or production those are undeniable but bc of the story. A story that took T.O.P 10 years of strength and resilience to finally tell us.
everyone knows that even mentioning BIGBANG was like a taboo for him.Yet here he is.
addressing everything koreans hate to even mention the very things he was attacked for the most without caring about what the media will say. Including that “self-crucifixion” moment, which he referenced from one of the most controversial livestreams that the press criticized him for weeks over.
his mental strength as choi seunghyun, the human being, is clear in every lyric of this album as much as it is T.O.P the idol.
I’m happy you’re back. thank u for creating real art ,something that will live on for generations and inspire every artist who comes after u.
