People aren't "hip" to this but in 2023 the Colorado River Water Rights were renegotiated heavily in California's favor. The state with the most unmitigated coastline in the country, with 40 million people and counting, has ONLY 12 FUCKING DESALINATION PLANTS.

So to help with the water consumption of mass immigration, Biden paid Newsom 300 MILLION to get a promise that they would clamp down on water usage and build "conservation projects" to help with water restoration and preservation.

While people are chimping out about data centers California is sucking Powell and the Colorado dry to keep its mass immigrant population afloat while refusing to build literally ANY INFRASTRUCTURE.

Thomas Sowell is 96 years old, and the man has spent seven of those decades teaching the same lesson the political class refuses to learn: there are no solutions, only trade-offs.

He started as a Marxist. Worked in the federal government in 1960, studying minimum wage policy in Puerto Rico. The data told him what the textbooks would not: when you raise the price of labor by law, you price the least-skilled workers out of a job. His government colleagues cared more about protecting the program than protecting the workers. That killed his faith in central planning faster than any theory.

Read "Knowledge and Decisions" (1980) and you get the whole architecture of his thought. Prices carry information. No planner in Washington, however credentialed, can gather what millions of buyers and sellers signal every second through their bids and refusals. Hayek made this point in his 1945 paper on the use of knowledge in society. Sowell took it and built an entire method around it, applying it to housing, education, race, crime, and the endless parade of "compassionate" schemes that reliably wreck the people they claim to rescue. Rent control empties buildings. Occupational licensing locks the poor out of trades. Sowell documented every one of these disasters with numbers, not slogans.

You want the sharpest example? Look at his work on race and economics. He showed that black Americans made faster gains in employment and income in the decades before the great expansion of the welfare state than after it. The programs sold as help became a ceiling. He said it plainly when saying it plainly cost him invitations to every respectable dinner party in the country. He never flinched. He wrote another column instead and another book, well into his nineties.

This man never mistook good intentions for good results. Go read him. You will emerge harder to fool.

Today's exhibit is the claim that Congress is "integrating our military with Israel." This conjures up an image where next Tuesday the 82nd Airborne reports to Tel Aviv.

No.That is not, in technical military terminology, "a thing that is happening right now."

The NDAA provision (Sections 219/224) is about formalizing technology sharing, joint research, and defense cooperation through an office and reporting structure. In other words, it takes an arrangement we've been doing informally for years and gives it a filing cabinet, three committees, and a stack of forms requiring seventeen signatures.

It does not mean American generals wake up to find they've been reassigned to Tel Aviv. It does not mean Israeli brigades are suddenly under U.S. command. It does not mean we're taking military orders from Israel, or they're taking them from us.

Nobody is handing Israel the launch codes.
Nobody is putting Israeli officers in command of the U.S. Army.

Nobody is replacing "The Star-Spangled Banner" with "Hava Nagila" at basic training.

This is government. If they were actually integrating two militaries, they'd need at least four new agencies, six environmental impact statements, and a task force that wouldn't issue its first report until 2038.

This is the legislative equivalent of your company finally documenting the process everyone has already been using for five years.

You can argue it's a good idea or a bad idea. You can argue we cooperate too much or too little. Those are legitimate debates. Unfortunately everyone just hears "ISRAEL!!!!" and goes into tachycardia.

Calling it "integrating our military" is like calling a shared Google Drive "merging our companies." It's dramatic, it gets people riled up, and it's not what is actually happening.

The flaw in this argument is assuming greed disappears when you replace voluntary trade with political power. If people are too selfish to be trusted with freedom, why trust them with government? Capitalism is the only system that lets you say no. Communism abolishes that protection.

I hear statements like this all the time:

"Why when Jesus talks about feeding the poor, it’s christianity. But when a politician talks about feeding the poor, it’s socialism?"

This is one of those ideas that sounds profound until you examine it for longer than the lifespan of a fruit fly.

Take the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25–37). A traveler gets robbed and left for dead. A Samaritan comes along and:

Bandages the mans wounds.
Puts him on his own animal.
Takes him to an inn.
Pays his own money for the man's care.

Then Jesus says, "Go and do likewise."

At no point does the Samaritan stop and say, "Hold on while I petition the Roman provincial government to establish the Department of Fallen Travelers."

Notice the subject of that sentence. It isnt Caesar. It isn't the Sanhedrin. It isn't the Ministry of Compassionate Transportation. It's YOU.

This theme shows up repeatedly. Jesus tells individuals to be generous, to care for the poor, to lend expecting nothing in return, to give secretly, to serve one another, to sell possessions and give to those in need. (Luke 12:33, Luke 3:10–14, Luke 6:35–36, Matthew 5:16, Matthew 6:1–4, John 13:12–17.)

If you actually study the Bible, and not use it as a pithy collection of sayings, you learn that Jesus made it very clear that public service to those in need is part of your worship of God and him. It's necessary in order to be a christian. Outsourcing it to government is not good enough.

Christian charity is fundamentally a moral obligation placed on the believer. I can't outsource the giving and service required of me to the Government any more than I could outsource prayer or belief.

If a politician wants to talk about feeding the poor, he's a good Christian if he's doing it himself, with his own money. That's it. (He should also be doing it quietly as Matthew 6:1 says, but that's a different rant.)

If your definition of socialism is simply "helping poor people" then congratulations: your childish understanding of politics almost eclipses your childish understanding of Christianity.

“Under God” was added to the Pledge of Allegiance in 1954, not invented in 1954.

The exact wording was actually inspired by Lincoln:

“that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom” - Lincoln, Gettysburg Address

The concept dates back to 1776:

“the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God” - Declaration of Independence

The constitution itself is even dated:

“in the Year of our Lord 1787”
