🧵 on the abduction of 74 Congolese children & youth by Joseph #Kony's #LRA group between Feb 2023-March 2024 and what's happened to the abductees since.
Notably, our local early warning system and @CrisisTracker project has not documented a single attack attributable to #Kony's LRA sub-group in over a year. All attacks have been committed by splinter groups operating independently of his command.
The article of @pauldronan and myself on the current status of the #LRA and #Kony is (re)published in @newvisionwire 'LRA sells honey to survive: What is the future of the rebel force?' https://t.co/9ccnCX499g

#Centrafrique: un jeune garçon, capturé par la LRA, retrouve sa famille à Bria au centre-est du pays, après 7 ans. Il a été remis à sa famille le 9 juillet dernier par l'ONG Invisible Children. @UNICEF_CAR@UN_CAR@UEenRCA@fidh_fr
Fantastic piece on trends in #LRA activity by @sophie_neiman. Includes @CrisisTracker data on continued abduction of children and youth documented by @Invisible-supported early warning system in #DRC and #CAR.
The Lord’s Resistance Army has been reduced to a dwindling rump of fighters spread across vast swathes of territory in Central Africa. So what's to make of the group’s spate of recent attacks? https://t.co/u3mWZjsEgU
Important HRW report on high levels of armed group violence in and near Bria, CAR. Data from Invisible Children's @CrisisTracker project corroborates this trend. So far in 2018, more than 40% of all attacks against civilians in eastern CAR we've recorded have taken place in Bria.
Yesterday the LRA struck again, reportedly abducting 18 people southeast of Banda. 13 were released soon after, but we're hearing five children remain in captivity. Counting the six children abducted on August 26, that's 11 children taken into captivity in the last week.
Our team has been working to confirm reports of a major #LRA attack on Banda, DRC, on Sunday, August 26. Very credible reports that LRA went into center of town and abducted at least 27 people.
Here's a photo of David (who's also featured in @sallyhayd's thread) and Angelique, two superstars who flew into Banda, picked up the three defectors, and flew back to safety. From there they were repatriated to Kampala, and today they reunited with their families.
