Uganda's aquaculture sector has the potential to generate over USD 2 billion in fish exports and create 250,000 jobs if we invest strategically across the value chain.
At the Aquaculture Expo 2026 @ardckajjansi yesterday, our Chairman @OdrekRwabwogo reaffirmed the need to strengthen local fish feed production, improve quality standards, support value addition, and unlock access to regional and global markets. Export growth begins with competitive production.
"We cannot build an export economy by focusing on one part of the value chain. Fish is not just about production. It is about quality seed, affordable feeds, certification, financing, infrastructure and markets working together. That is how countries build industries.” he noted.
Together with @GovUganda, industry players and farmers, we are working to build an export-ready fisheries sector that delivers jobs, incomes and sustainable economic transformation.
UGANET in the Field
Moyo & Arua, Uganda — UGANET, together with partners including IRC, OPM, HADS, UNHCR, and TPO, conducted a joint detention monitoring visit to Moyo Government Prison and Arua Remand Home.
The exercise aimed to assess and identify protection and access to justice concerns, as well as the overall well-being of inmates and remandees. The team also provided legal support and counseling services, alongside dignity support through the distribution of essential non-food items (NFIs).
The visit forms part of ongoing collaborative efforts to strengthen protection systems and ensure humane treatment, access to justice, and improved living conditions for persons in detention.

📍 Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement | Cluster J
This week, UGANET, in collaboration with the Office of the Prime Minister and the Uganda Police Force, conducted a legal information and awareness session in Cluster J, Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement. The engagement focused on community policing, peaceful coexistence, juvenile justice, domestic violence, and the protection of child rights.
Kiryandongo District (Bweyale Town Council) continues to register some of the highest cases of juvenile offenders. In response, UGANET and partners have undertaken targeted interventions, including awareness sessions in schools and community dialogues aimed at sensitizing both learners and parents on prevention and response to juvenile delinquency.
The sessions underscored a key reality: the fight against juvenile delinquency does not begin in the courtroom, but within the home and community. Special emphasis was placed on engaging mothers and caregivers, who play a central role in shaping children’s behavior and protection.
By equipping families with knowledge on child rights, protection mechanisms, and access to justice, these interventions aim to strengthen household-level prevention, promote peaceful coexistence, and contribute to safer communities and better outcomes for refugee children.

On this International Day of the African Child, we recognize that dignity and wellbeing begin with the basics: safe water, clean toilets, and hygiene that protects health and learning.
Yet for many children across Africa, including Uganda, these essentials are still not guaranteed. Schools without reliable WASH facilities expose children, especially girls, to disease, absenteeism, and avoidable inequality in education outcomes.
As UGANET, we reaffirm that universal access to water, sanitation, and hygiene is not a privilege but a right every child deserves. Investing in child-friendly WASH systems is investing in education, health, and Africa’s future.

Happy to see one of our own, Andrew Kabuura, representing Uganda on SuperSport’s 2026 FIFA World Cup coverage team, featuring with stars like John Terry. Congratulations!
Majority of the crimes l have seen on TV , a boda boda man is involved at some
Stage. Either as the offender or as a means of getting away . It surely can’t be a coincidence! Otherwise unless they are checked, no one is safe .
Serious conversations need to be had about the presence of boda bodas in Kampala . Most of these guys are actually THUGS hiding in the boda boda business ! They are the ones who waylay people going to work early in the morning and going home at night. @PoliceUg please 🙏🏻
I'm renewing my DSTV subscription for one reason.
The Ntungamo man @andrewkabuura is doing the Champions League tonight on @SuperSportTV
Big games call for the best in the business.
"Chairman, a country without reserves is not sovereign. The potential of this Bill to destabilize Uganda’s balance of payments is our primary concern as a central bank. For example, last financial year the overall balance of payment surplus was USD 1.5 billion. That’s how we were able to increase our reserve coverage by USD 1.5 billion. Today as we speak our reserves are close to USD 6 billion. Why? Because these inflows have been coming in. The moment you tamper with these inflows here, we risk running down our reserves, and that is economic disaster for a country.” Governor Atingi-Ego on the Protection of Sovereignty Bill 2026 in an appearance before Parliament today.
