@CompassDrifter@TwoRulesOfWar Wouldn't that lead to the unfortunate case where rather than POW's you'd end up with MIA and/or buried very quietly in a very deep pit? Maybe I'm misunderstanding.
@loquitur_ponte I ended up telling an oral-memory version of Gandalf's arrival at bed time for about six months between 3 and 4. It slowly metamorphosed into its own thing. I should try again really.
@batmanbad461480@GreeneMan6 No. San Diego (and associated feeders like Encinitas and Solana Beach) are beautiful, the food is incredible, and the people are broadly welcoming and kind. Unfortunately a home costs one squillion dollars.
@usrbinr@Eric_Erins This particular tunnel was very explicitly built due local to resident pressure groups. Frankly it's insane that the government caved on it.
@number_pizza111@_AashishReddy I'd suggest plenty of people are willing to say "The Pope is wrong", but are slightly less willing to say "The Pope is a Chinese Communist Agent, and also wrong."
@purplepangolin@temuka1286@Madz_Grant Seems plausible, albeit deeply annoying. I assume at this point, because it seems like such a terrible "deal", across multiple governments and parties, there must be very good reasons to keep it rolling along.
@loquitur_ponte@Noahpinion The downsides there are (presumably) the need for long term maintenance, the exacerbation of other climate effects (ocean acidification, acid rain etc.), second order climate impacts (jet stream?). Better than the alternative? Probably...
@JT___3000@CRELeasingLawTX@Noahpinion 5000-10000, or 0.3% of US births annually *may* be birth tourism - or may be people who didn't intend to give birth in the U.S. , per https://t.co/CcsuM3vBQb .
@fullofsighs33@Alexfeinberg@ProfMJCleveland You have to file taxes and apply the FEIE. Which only applies to a certain income level, after which you do in fact pay. I don't have to look it up - I have to do it. Well, my CPA does.
@fullofsighs33@Alexfeinberg@ProfMJCleveland They do have to register for the draft. And pay taxes (the U.S. taxes worldwide income). And pay into social security (via those taxes).
@neocon53@NATHANINSOCAL@Alexfeinberg Some countries (probably not China, but I forget) have some fun cross-border tax agreements, which could eventually end up with their local tax bill/enforcement being a surprise. That said, it won't happen with an underfunded US tax office.
