@jameshadwin I think it works best if you can keep ewe and lambs in shed, more controlled and ensures lambs eats concentrate. Cost wise as we now house the ewe’s anyway for winter, on good quality silage, the cost isn’t huge. Need >shed space. Artificial rearing to a minimum for us now
There is no reason why we can’t have a new government next Tuesday. FF/FG need to lock in 8 Independents, which should take an hour and a half. Then an agreed programme for government can be rattled out in a few hours by someone good on a typewriter. And Bob’s your uncle. Or if someone insists Bob’s your aunt.
@think_or_swim 0.33% of EU GDP goes to 10 million farmers to supply affordable food to 448 million in the EU. Costs 33c/day or €118/person annually.
Ireland govt health expenditure is c €4,500/person. Farmers are incredible value but can’t take the cost/ price squeeze anymore.
Raw sewage entering the river Glyde. Unfortunately one of many rivers where this is happening! @think_or_swim is this the farmers fault aswell? @MichaelFitzmau1 @greenparty_ie@RTE_PrimeTime Time to stop using farmers as scapegoats for climate change.
On Wednesday, we presented to the Oireachtas Committee on Agriculture on Development of the Sheep Sector.
The discussion was focused on the real and immediate opportunity that sheep milk represents for the entire sheep sector.

The year is 1801, Irish sheep farmers absolutely knew to collect the milk after the ewe has natural reared the lamb, providing a third income source from sheep.
Thanks @ZwartblesIE for sharing. #grasstomilk#irishdairy#irishsheep
@davidkerr67 Utilising slurry and fym. And complementing grass in Higher DM and Energy. It has a role. For us milking sheep it certainly seems that way.
